Hello from Napa CA, 2nd bike Build

FastCletus
Just posted my first question in new topics tech section, or at least I think I put it in the right place, so thought I would show off my work, and reveal my plan for my 750 and why I am on the site

Bike 1, my baby, 2001 900 SS Ducati race bike. I raced in CCS in FL for 3 years (1 podium), and just passed AFM test out here in CA. Think my first race will be June.

Bike 2. 1975 Cb 500t Cafe, this was my first attempt at building a bike. Wow did I make a lot of $$ mistakes.  Mainly electrical.  Rule, if you cut it, label it.  This project took about 2 years, more $$ than I care to admit. But I love it and it gets a lot of attention.  Quick run down, New lights all around, clip ons, dual front disc, Air Pods, Rear sets, Cafe seat and cushion, GP Shift

Bike 3, My buddy, this is a 2005 who knows what country scooter (49cc).  I stickered it up to be like Rossi's 2009 Bike.  I ride it all over town.  A few engine mods of course.

Bike 4, CB 750 F 1980, I think I am going to make this a full fairing racer, and paint it gresini colors to honor Marco Simoncelli.  I bought it off a guy who got it form a police auction.

I would have liked to watch your 500 go together. At least I'll get to see the 750 be built. Do you know which direction/style you are planning,or are you just free-styling it?

Welcome! It's good to have you.

Welcome to the forum. How about a picture of that hopped up scooter? I know a kid with a two cylinder Moped that would give, you a good race.

Heres the scooter

OK, I have to confess.  I have the biggest Sh*t eating grin on my face.  My Cb 750 that I bought last week on ebay  in real real rough condition for $300 bucks went Vrrrooom today.  I am so stoked!!!
I got the missing parts off ebay, with some fresh gas, oil, plugs and a dash of starting fluid.  She started on the 4th try.  Albeit a little rough, it idle, when revved she sounded beautiful.
Replacement forks gets here friday, so though not legal, I should be able to ride around the block this weekend!!!

Amazing what a gang this is. I am most proud of my other 3 bikes and all you all want to talk about is the scooter.  Think I am going to like this group.

PS the stickers do add more HP.  You should see me lean it over, and accelerate out of the turns

BTW, congrats on that 750.  Looking forward to seeing what you do to with it.

Hey now...when my CB750 popped its cam chain, I rode my wife's orange Honda Metropolitan around town. Scooters are fun, simple machines.  Twist and go. 38mph, and almost 100mpg. I even rode it from home to Newark (40 miles east) on US 40 (the National Road) to get parts for the CB.  Sure, I got some looks from the guys at the Honda store, but it beats walking.

Scooters rock, especially when they're in posse formation.  Harley riders have nothing on a scooter meeting.

Cletus, I'm interested in your '80 Cb 750 project. I just got a 1980 cb750c about 2 months ago. I had that same feeling when I was able to get it started. Mine sat in a barn for 4 years and was owned by a creek bed dwelling, no toothed guy in the wilds of the Appalachian mountains. Anyway the gas was black and had what looked like blood clots mixed in the gas. I removed the tank hooked up my lawn tractor tank, fresh gas a new battery and cranked the new battery dead 3 times. then just when I was about to call it quits trying to start it, the engine coughed the next time it sputtered to life. after that it started the first time every time. really rough and it idled at 3000 rpm.
I got the bike completly tore down and the engine out of the frame. I got a carb rebuild kit from Randak a week ago and haven't done em yet.
Anyway there aren't too many DOHCers here. so we can be friends or maybe good aquaintances, LOL.
Oh Welcome by the way.
For some reason most people here are under the misguided notion that the SOHCs are better for some reason, LOL... I don't know what I'm talking about. I learned that rubber gloves will keep the grease off your hands.

Yes sir rear sets on the Cafe

This pic might show better. If not I can take a pic this weekend and send a close up.  I used universal rear sets, fabbed a bracket, and mounted them.  They are pretty sturdy.  When I take the biek apart in the fall to pain, I will more than likely weld the brackets on

Cool! Thanks for the pic! How do you like the rear sets compared to the stock pegs? Or did you ever run without them?  The bike looks great man, well done

Re: Hello from Napa CA, 2nd bike Build

LOVE the rear sets.  I am more of a sport bike guy, so I love the aggressive ride feel.  Its actually pretty comfortable too.  I don't think I can even put old pegs on if I wanted to.

Oh and BTW I just learned the hard way that my bike is actually and 81 CB750F, and not a 1980.  Ordered new forks on ebay, the guy said the came from a 1980, which is what I thought my bike was.  Low and behold the forks are 35mm, and I need a 37mm.  Did some research and figured out in 1981 the 750 had 37mm and in 1980 they had 35mm. Damn wasted 80 bucks, alteast I know now.  Now hunting some fork tubes.

I ride my scooter everywhere, coffee, auto shop, lunch, mechanic, and of course the pub.
