Hello all....as the title suggests, newbie here. I just received a bike that used to me my uncle's. He passed away at first of the year, and this was a bike he had. I don't really know much about these bikes, but I love it. The title is in limbo right now (missing), and is being looked for. I was told it was an 85, but can't confirm yet (and I thought 83 was last year for this style?). I was hoping you folks could enlighten me some on this bike? I tried looking up the bike, by frame number, but to no avail. Frame number is JH2RC0126CM009961. The bike is only showing about 9000 miles, and is not running at the moment, although I only brought it home, and haven't tried charging the battery or anything.
Anyway, I thought I would introduce myself.

Hello BearXL Knowing it wasn't a 85 put you more knowledgeable then I, 80s something ..But I do no that CB 750s are very dependable even more with new updates on bearings and plugs.simple stuff that were all willing to share ,by using the search you should find most all ya need but being an 80s D.O.H.C. may take some time for some body to jump in on a new subject. Quit a few 79 out there on the forum. Have some fun on your build you caught a keeper and run with your rear pegs done once in a while so your Uncle has a place to put his feet...Piute...

Thank you, Piute.
I have always had Suzukis...started out and taught myself to ride on a GSXR600, in the 90's, then had a C50 and C90 in the last 5 years.....I had to give up the C90 in 2010, because of the economy (lost hours at work, so something had to go). I feel very lucky to be able to have gotten this Nighthawk. I have always loved these (and the Suzuki GS's, Kawasaki GPZ's), and have never had the good fortune of having one, till now. I hope to be getting many years and miles out of this once I get it going.
I was able to tinker with the bike after I posted earlier, and adjusted the clutch cable (wasn't working when I brought home), and got the seat and battery off to charge it. The carbs have been off of it sometime in the past few years (maybe in the last year?), for a rebuild hopefully, but I have to reconnect the plenums back to at least one, since I noticed it isn't on all the way. I will be learning on this bike, as far as troubleshooting and repair, and that's ok. I just hope to get it up and running soon!

Yup...looks just like mine! Welcome Looks like the exhaust has been changed from a 4 into 4, to a 4 into 2. Also looks like different gas cap.
Sweet bike...I've got the same color scheme as well. Lots of knowledge and compassion here...lol.
In 1972 I had to make a choice...quit riding...or quit drinking. God says it's safe to get back in the saddle now...at least I'm still alive...and feel more alive with the wind in my face! Now riding "Helen Black"...1982 CB750SC.

Lol......the gas cap is different....wrapped in duct tape! I got the tank off to have better access to checking things out. The solenoid is bad (fusible link actually). I also rewired the toggle/kill switch someone installed, as it was apparently easier to install that than to redo the ignition switch. That all has to be redone. When i crossed the posts on solenoid, it did arc, and the starter did move (barely enough to hear), but not turning over. Guess I will have to go through and check the starter, and regulators, coils. Plugs and wires are junk as well. But hey, I got the bike for free. I'm not complaining.

I know the feeling. The buzzer was missing on the Toolmatic, but I got the one off the 74 CB 750 that my buddy is parting out. I put it on the work bench, and now I will never find it again. TOOLS

I can't see it in your picture, but these bikes have a kick starter. I use it all the time to hopefully add years to my battery.
That's a beaut you got there and these bikes are incredibly reliable and with plenty of horsepower. They even handle very well. I love how, if you overthorttle while learning, the rear tire just skids fairly harmlessly. In modern sports bikes an overthrottle will either raise the front wheel or just shoot you across the street frantically.
I hope your front brake doesn't bind, it's a common ocurrence in these. I just rode through my binding until it went away on its own.
Mine is a '76, I've been riding it since last summer.

I've read were they say the kicker was not meant to be used a lot or all the time,On drag/racing they have no batt. So only have a kick and were I read it so there is a way to make it better just don't have that info saved to were I can post.

Honda did away with the kicker in 79 with the DOHC engines. The thought was that battery technology had improved to where the kick starter would not be needed.
