Honda CB750KZ (1981)

FastCol
This is my Dad's 1981 Honda CB750KZ, he has had it from new and it's only got 4k on the clock. All original except frame was powder coated last year, replaced rotting original pipes with a set from a US custom model (End cans a little shorter) Still has original dealer supplied number plate

That is a nice bike. Is the "Z" a European designation? Also did it have the duel disk front breaks originally, or did, you install them?

Looks remarkably close to the USA 1979 K model.  Gorgeous bike!  Sitting is hard on a bike...  Put some miles on it, before it dry rots -- or put it in a museum.  Cheers!

Yeh the bike will be out on the road next season putting some miles on the clock  Think this model was sold in the US but with spoke wheels and single front disc brake, UK bike was sold for about 4 years alongside the SOHC 650 K model.

I feel your pain, Tim.  My '79 has a hole rusted through in the right, bottom muffler.  I checked with my mechanic:  he can order me an OEM set, from Japan Honda, for...  $1,800!  That was two years ago.

I checked around, and I found another site where a fellow had cut off the OEM mufflers, attached some megaphone mufflers to his OEM headers...  Damn!  It looked sweet!  [Four-into-four is no longer available; only options are 4-into-1, or 4-into-2.]  Only issue was the loudness -- not much for baffles in them.  The mufflers he used are available, in a set of two, for $89, so for around $200, delivered, I can get four mufflers.  I found another site that details how to add baffles, to quiet the mufflers down -- requires a little welding of half-slugs into a pipe, but not too difficult, or expensive, if hired out.

If you are interested, I can share the muffler source, and the baffle site.  Let me know.  Cheers!

I have a 1980 CB750K that I'd like to get running. It was parked about 9 years ago in Sacramento Ca, and hasn't been touched until I started on it about a week ago. I suspect that the mufflers will need replacing, and I haven't really checked out the pipes, but hopefully I can put some of that rust modifying stuff that turns 'red' rust into 'black' rust (and keeps the rust at that level and it won't rust any more after that). Also maybe using electricity to turn some rust back into steel. I don't think the rust is advanced enough to justify scrapping the pipes (yet)
I'd love to see any sites where people have been able to refurbish or modify their exhaust system.

Beautiful bike.

Mine is almost identical, differences are the usual ones between the european and north american versions.

Yours has a boat-tail light, comstar rims and dual discs and mine has a different tail light, wire rims and a single disc.  Not sure why they did the boat-tail light or the comstars, but I believe the dual discs were a european safety requirement.  I also have a 4-1 cheap aftermarket exhaust.

Yours is also in MUCH better condition than mine .  It has 84K kilometers on it.

Hi I just acquired a 1982 750KZ. Its got only 1119 miles on the clock. Its been sat under cover in a garage for the best part of 30 years. The cases have suffered from some corrosion hopefully will clean up with autosol. The silencers/mufflers are rotten. I've ordered a 4 into 1 for now, sent the carbs off for a "sonic bath". I'd be interested if you still had contact details for those after market muffler and baffle suppliers. Otherwise the bike is very clean. I gave the engine a good lube, oil and filter change and carb jetting clean and she fired up. Waiting for parts now.
