How to Lift Front End of CB750F to Replace Fork Springs

Overlord
Does anyone have a good method to lift and suspend the front forks on a CB750F?  I want to replace my fork springs but the 4 into 1 exhaust doesn't give me a good place to set a jack under the frame.  Do I need to pull the exhaust to do this or build some sort of stand? Any creative ideas out there?

Buy a stand similar to the type used in this video

Are you outside or inside? Inside is easy. Screw a could hooks into a rafter and use a couple ratchet straps. Hook the straps to the bike and then hooks and ratch the front end up.

If outside, put the bike on the center stand. Now, you can set enough weight on the back of the seat to lift the front, or use a jack on the front wheel to lift it. Then put a board or something under the motor and then brace it with a couple of jackstands.

Ratchet strap around the bars and off a ceiling beam is my preferred method. Several times I've used a small piece of plywood under the oil pan and a bottle jack to lift mine. Just seems too wobbly that way, though. I like lifting by the bars IMO.

*edit* Oh yeah, while on the center stand like Rerun said.

Just do them one at a time. Will not need to hold the front end up. However when you go to put the cap back on, get someone to push down on the back of the seat to remove all the weight off the other fork. This will make putting the caps back on easier.

Thanks everyone! I'll probably try the ratchet strap method first. Hopefully my shop's second floor and roof won't implode and come crashing down on me and my bike!

If your worried about the strenght of you rafters, put a 4X4 or 6X6 on the bottom chord spanning a few rafters. Toe nail into place the put your hook into that. Fid tested Mickey Mouse engineer approved.

I recently replaced my springs with progressives, and used Tools' method. Only, I only had myself to hold down and turn the nuts but was able to do it.

Jacking them up makes things easier. I will tell you what not to do though. Don't take out both springs at once with any fluid still in the forks. Not unless you want a fork oil squirt gun!
