In need of fork tube bushing?

slownugly007
Not entirely sure if this is the correct name but it is the bronze bushing that goes around the fork tube on my 81 750f. It has the name DU.S.S stamped on the side but couldnt find anything on the internet? The outside seems to be steel and the inner part is soft so Im guessing its bronze and acts as a bearing for the for tube to ride against?

I was dry fitting everything together while doing my fork seals and got carried away and pressed said bushing into its groove without thinking and the only way to get it out was to pry and pull it out. So now im on the hunt for a new one!?  I have no idea where to start or if theres another company who makes something similar? If anybody has any advice Id appreciate it. Thanks guys!

Honda should have that. My locale Honda/Kawasaki dealer had them in stock, for my Kawasaki KZ 1000 Police bike.

FOUND THEM! Thanks bud and Hey Tools, Do you know if the 81 750F ss forks came standard with progressive springs? When I took mine apart the springs have a tighter coil towards the top and a standard evenly spaced coil going down? Ive never messed with these forks so I have no idea if thats what progressive springs look like? It just seemed logical since it had a "progressive" coil?

Also when I re-install the springs is there a particular way to install them...i.e tighter coil at the top or bottom or does it not make a difference? When I tore them apart the tight coil was at the top, but just wanted top make sure it was right to begin with. Thanks again!

That looks just like the progressive I just put in mine. Whether they are stock I dont know.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to go away from air forks? Im just asking cuz I should be getting a set soon and I am wondering what the deal is with them. Seems like a good idea, but people seem to want to convert them over alot.

Of coarse it is not on the internet. It was made before the internet.

You are just out of luck.

Just kidding..
You can get one at a bearing supply and you may be able to get one made with plastic to eliminate corrosion problems at the same time. Plastics were not developed back then either.

Shiny, the only reason I want to get rid of mine is for clearance issues. The top fork nuts on this system is big and bulky and won't allow much room for my master cylinder on drag bars. Plus I wanted to slide the forks up a bit to lower it but again I can't beacause the air setup hits the master cylinder.

Not really sure of the pros and cons of the system? Mine rides really good and seems to handle great so other than clearance and cosmetics, I don't have any cons with the air shock.

That makes sense. If you go with clip ons vs a drag bar could you reuse what you have?

To answer your question on which way they go,it doesnt matter. The instructions that cam with my progressives said they could go either way. I put the close wound coils at the top,to keep them from displacing fork oil and throwing the level off.
