Instrument / "gauges" repair, reset, and refurbish.

cardinal430
I've finally located replacement speedo and tach and have been looking at sending them to Randy's
Cycle Service in VA to have them refurbished because from what I've seen they do an excellent job.
Does anyone have any experience with them?  One thing I'm struggling with is that they don't seem to
want to talk on the phone. Any reccomendations? Comments?

That name seems familiar, but I don't have any experience with them. Why will they not talk on the phone? They won't call back, or do they not answer? Some places might not be hanging around the shop much this time of year.

Yeah I don't know, The secretary said they prefer to keep all communications to email. Not the best way to do business if you ask me. Still their work looks pretty good. They have videos on YouTube of level A restorations that are not cheap but make the bikes look brand-new.

By using e-mail, they have all communication in writing, and eliminate the possibility of someone saying they did something that they did not want done, or agreed to pay for. Good way to do business if you ask me. That is how I prefer to communicate with people when I work on their bikes, and wish I done it that way when I was contracting.

Agreed. A good tactic. But answering a phone and establishing contact with a potential customer makes good sense. A potential customer may have some legit questions before committing to a job. THEN move to email.

Just to update this,  I did have Randy's restore my gauges and just got them back.  They look amazing.  Nothing is ever absolutely perfect,  I've never seen an original in it's original shape so nothing to compare to... but if I install these and they work, then Im satisfied.  Not cheap at 200.00 per,  but I suppose to get a bike worth some $$ then you have to invest some $$.    It appears that he did put them on something because there was 1.5 miles on the  trip meter.

They did finally talk on the phone -- when it was time to pay them.

Not overly surprised it cost that much. It isn't super hard to do a resto, it is the time involved in doing it right.
