Is a 1980 custom a good bike to make a cafe racer?

Mr. Gooley
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and i'm so glad to be part of it. I have a 1987 Honda Super Magna and fell in love with older vintage Hondas and i'm in need of a new project. I just purchased a 1980 cb750 custom and going to convert it into a cafe racer, just wondering, in everyones opinion is the 1980 a ok version to convert?

I personally like the mid 70's cb's but got a good deal on this one and it's in awesome shape.
I can tell that after the 77's the frames started slanting up under the tank and the bikes started losing there retro straight lines and falling into the 80's swept angles.

I think i want to change the tank, just don't like the tear drop angle of the stock one, if anyone has opinions or experience on the frame or this year i would really appreciate it.

Again, much love and respect, think that these bikes and the people who built and design them have the best sense of art and creativity and are pure artists.

Welcome!
Yes, the 1980 can be made into a good looking cafe…do a google image search for 1980 Honda CB750 cafe racer…you'll see many have gotten great results with this bike.

Check out ksharp's build of his 1980 here...http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/1980-f-big-plans-td3074549.html

Forum member Half-Caf is also building a 1980….http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/Half-Caf-my-new-80-cb750f-SS-td3333614.html

There may even be more, but I only looked for a few minutes. Read the "parts sources" thread for some great places to get cafe parts, as well as some great advice on which ones to avoid. Post pics of the progress and have fun….this is the coolest CB750 forum I've found yet.
