It's Alive!!!

Kube
First of all I would like to thank everyone for their advice which led to getting my bike started today.  But of course now I need more help.  I got it running under its own power but it idles really rough.  Sometimes some of the cylinders seem to be missing but at other times they seem to fire just fine.  I'm thinking maybe a timing issue.  I also need to change the plugs.  when it idles well it fluctuates between 2000 and 4000 rpm which seems very high.  when it bogs down it drops to about 1000 and trying to rev the throttle has little effect.  Also it won't run at all unless its fully choked.  Lastly, I'm wondering if it's possible to get too much flow from the tank.  Right now I have one of these http://www.jcwhitney.com/MOTION-PRO-AUXILIARY-2-LITER-MOTORCYCLE-FUEL-TANK/GP_2004173_N_111+1979+200730429+600014236_10111.jcw hooked up instead of my stock tank.  it's been a lifesaver getting my bike to run without having the stock tank in the way.  Anyway, when I had the valve opened fully I had gas spewing out of the float bowls but when I backed it off to only about half way open the problem went away, even when the bike wasn't running.  I'm wondering if the extra flow might have been enough to push the float needle open and overflow the bowl.

It sounds like the carbs need to be rebuilt or at least cleaned. If the carbs are running over it's because the floats aren't shutting off the fuel when the bowls are full.

Sounds like you may have carbs full of crud. If the bike has been sitting for a long time, you may want to pull the float bowls off and clean real good. Or, pull the carbs, make sure the jets are all clear and check/reset the floats.

That's the problem.  They were all gummed up and I just cleaned them out real good.  Was hoping I wouldn't have to do it again.  Oh well, at least the overflow tubes aren't cracked.

I had a problem just like that. I had to adjust the floats. Works fine now
