Ive got some newb questions..??

etmracing
First of all I would like to introduce myself, Name is Chris and I work at a European Auto Service shop in Maryland. Just picked up my first bike/project.
1981 CB750k

Heres a couple questions:

-Whats the "k" stand for in the cb750k and whats the difference in motor/frame from the older cb's?

-Would the cafe style seats that most internet companys sell fit this model even tho they say up to 78'?,and then if not where would be a good place to look?

-I am currently pulling off the tank to clean it inside and out(paint also) and rebuild the carbs. Ive had the bike started but only for a second with starting spray, i figured the bike has sat for a year and the gas is old so it would be wise to clean/rebuild/sync the carbs just like the brit cars i work on and then see where i stand. The question is- are a lot of cafe builds using a gs500 tank on there 750's? Any info on that?--looks a like like this tank...

Thanks for any help people!

Well cleaning things is a good start. Make sure to pay very special attention to the jets. Also make sure you check any rubber or otherwise NOT metal piece for cracks.

The K denotes the style of bike. It is the regular ride, then you have the F which is like an SS model.

As for the seat, if you had a close up pic, I might be able to say or if you had the measurements. I have a 78K and while I am gone this weekend, I could get measurements on sunday possibly. But someone here may already know.

The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Bike doens't look too bad!  Aside from the bodywork, it looks great acutally.

Where in MD are you?  I'm a former resident.

Nice PBR.

sorry to do the labels out on the PBR can haha.

UPDATE- got the bike running and idling tonight. Fires up fast and smooth, engine is quite too! Im still gonna clean and adjust/sync the carbs but at least shes running.
...so get this, the reason why it started off of spray was because she wasnt getting gas, the p.o had capped the line off...just picked her up on Friday night and now shes running with about an hour of work into it. Next step is too sand/clean/paint the gas tank and battery covers while working on the carbs.

-?-Whats the voltage suppost to be on the battery while its idling, just installed a new battery because it didnt have one and im testing 12.5ish across the posts.

12.5 is fine at idle. It should charge once you increase the RPM's

As another owner of a '79 CB750K, the first thing I notice is what great shape the pipes are in!  Hard to find great examples of original pipes on these bikes, they seem to have rusted out pretty fast!

I'm guessing you didn't pay much for the bike, and yes he's right you could probably get a grand+ for the pipes!

Make sure there is an air filter in the box for starters or the carbs won't do anything but idle.

I think I've been by your shop on Mt Zion Rd.  Straight out Gas House Pike to 75 is near where I grew up.

Nice squareback in the background.

How did You know I have a squareback haha...the white car in the background is a fiat 500 but the wierd thing is right near that is my white 72 squareback..maybe its not coming up in my pics. The pipes are amazing and i would love to keep them...but the 4-1 has been catching my eye also.

Ahh, at first glance the fiat looked like a squareb.  I miss my old squareb and fastb...Have owned/flipped over 30 A/C'd VWs.  Wish I had stashed them all somewhere!

You can find nice used 4-1's cheap.  I paid $100 for my V&H that had one tiny scrape on it...Just save the stock exhaust, or use it to fund something else...LOL.
