Jetting carbs? k&N unipods? 1981 Honda CB 750C DOHC

unclehowlie
I just purchased a 81 750c. It currently has 4 into 2 Cobra exhaust. I have had a hard time setting an idle that is easy to start when cold (even with choke engaged) and idles normally when hot (idle sticks high when warm). It also seems the the left bank of cylinders is running rich (darker out of the left exhaust pipe).

I have decided to start fresh and am currently bidding on a set of rebuilt carbs online. I am also considering adding k&n unipod airfilters. Questions:

1)What jets should I start with?
2) I have heard unipods don't work well on the SOHCs carbs, is this true for the DOHC's?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Have you synched the carbs and checked to make sure the slow jets are not plugged? Float height is important and you might try a new set of plugs. Air/fuel mixture set properly? I'm not that familiar with the DOHC carbs.

The DOHC ones are even worse. Can me made to work ok with different needles commonly available in the K&N jet kit.  Air box makes the stock carbs work fine.

Best thing to run with pods is a completely different bank of carbs...Pull slides:

Some of these can be sourced used from other bikes too...Some KZ's, early GXSR's, etc.
