Just finished rebuilding the motor for my 1974 750K last night. Frame is at powder coating. Should get it back next week. What do you think to the motor?

Thanks for the comments guys. It was a lot of hard work. I stripped it down to the last nut and bolt. Repaired anything that needed it. Had to helicoil some threads. All new seals and gaskets. Cleaned every part. New piston rings. Lapped the valves. Chromed the rocker cover, breather cover, clutch mechanism housing, gear change cover, generator cover and forward chain guard. Painted the whole thing.
After all that, I just hope it starts and runs ok.

Wow!That looks amazing! I'll be right back...i gotta go throw rocks at mine...later.
Looks great, what method did you use to lap the valves? I read you can just attach the end of the valve to a drill and spin it for a min, that seems like it'll work.
I just used the old fashioned method. Rubber sucker on a stick, lapping paste and rub like you are trying to start a fire. Doesn't take much effort. You only need a decent witness mark all round the valve seat.
That is seriously NICE! What color is the middle section? Looks kind of metallic blue.

I was gonna ask where you got the valve cover chromed,but id rather not know.I will be compelled to have mine coated,but i am really too lazy to pull the engine again.
Shiny, just in case you do decide to ask, I sent all the parts to Cycle x. I tried them first off with the alternator cover. They did a good job on that so I gave them everything else. Price seemed reasonable. Great service and the turn round time, door to door, is around 3 weeks. They call me when it's ready to ship and they are very pleasant and helpful. There is a price list on their web site and, as far as I can tell, that's what they charged me.
Mark, I will get you the colour in the morning.
I base coated everything with two coats of grey engine primer then I did the cylinder block with three coats of titanium silver blue and the rest with three coats of aluminium. Finally, I gave everything three coats of clear. All the paint was Dupli Color from Pep Boys. I'm a bit concerned about it though because Shinyribs says his has gone a bit yellow.
I'd say;
Ribs clear burned may not have been the right heat range have seen it happen on engines before
clear is not a necessary thing over engine paint,If so I would suggest putting on after a few weeks if possible I'm guessing being used for extra protection So will only need were exposed ?
All my painting will be done over what was already done (winter ? ) Same colors ,But will have that extra protection of road chips .some platting if $ allows used paint 1st to check look Piute N Judose
details can make or break ya

I do not like clear. I learned my lesson after I was talked into a black lacquer paint job with a clear coat on my 84 Camaro (I wanted Imron). The thing turned brown I wish I had made them repaint the car.

When I worked at the auto parts store, we had a guy buy some VHT high heat engine enamel for his Harley engine. Turns out that the engine heat was not enough to cure that brand of engine paint so the first time his engine got a few drops of rain on it from a light sprinkle, he had rust spots a day later. A call to VHT and we learned that even though the can said it would cure with engine heat, they recommended baking the block at 350 degrees for an hour! WTF!? He was building it for a show and didn't have time to re-do it.

Geeze...you did all that polishing, and you want it to WORK TOO? Isn't that asking a bit much? I'm sure, if you did your due diligence, it'll run well. If not, TOOLS can get it going for you. Wholesale.
