Looks can be deceiving.

bklion
Hi guys & gals, Im new to this forum, I bought a 1982 750C summer of 2010 & I think I finally have the bike running at 95%. Paid $500 bucks for it & cosmetically I couldn't pass it up. But it kind of turned into a money pit. But thats what its all about, right? It had been sitting in a garage for 16 years so it needed alot of cleaning up. I bought a 1973 new in Japan when I was in the service & loved the bike so now I have another one. Cleaned the tank, carbs 3 times before I got it right, # 3 carb had a piece of o-ring stuck in one of the channels, couldn't get it out with air or carb cleaner so I used a old trick & used a high pressure grease fitting & grease to push it out. Somebody had been working on those carbs before me & really messed them up. After the carbs were right I found out the Rotor was bad so I replaced that & the stator & brushes. I bought a nice little LED voltage moniter & pluged it into my battery tender plug & used velcro to attach it to the dash. Works good for trouble shooting intermittent electrical problems. Now after spending two days reading on this forum I would like to put a set of cafe bars on it with a 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust. But I Sold a 1995 Ducati 916 2 years ago, couldn't ride it anymore been getting leg cramps while riding, not good, getting to old I guess so I'm not so sure it would be such a good idea. The new exhaust sounds good though, any suggestions on what brand to buy or better yet what to stay away from? I was going to put POD filters on but it sounds like I should stay away from them with this year bike.
My everyday rider is a 1979 HD Superglide, also have a 1988 Honda NX125 & a 1969 BSA Thunderbolt which has been in a box for the passed 30 years. In the early 70's I ran around the California Desert with that bike, I put moto cross bars & knobby tires on it, lots of fun. Heres a couple of pic's of the 750, Oh took it out today for a short ride, ran like shit only 3 cyl fireing pissed me off but I found out I had a defective plug, the procelin broke loose & slide down over the electrode.

Have a great day

Very nice looking bike. I'd keep the stock pipes. They look to be in good condition. The after market ones don't seem to hold up as well. Good idea to stay away from pods too. They can be a real bear to jet correctly with CV carbs (as you've already read). If you want to go fast, get another Ducati.

I've got one of those LED voltage meters to. Great investment, I love not having to guess if my charging system is still working.

Not sure how low of a handle bar you're looking at. They might be a bit uncomfortable with the low cruiser style seat. I didn't care for the stock ape hangers on my 750K either. I got a new bar with a 'superbike' bend. It's got about a two inch rise and three inch pullback.

Anyway, I think you got a great deal for $500 despite the charging system overhaul and carb cleanings that were required. I think 90% of the 79 to 82 DOCHs are parked and eventually sold for those same problems. At least you've got it sorted out now.

In all honesty, your bike is in near-mint, stock condition.  It would be a shame to alter it.  I would suggest you sell it as a turn-key bike, touting it's near-mint, superb condition.  Take the profit, and buy one not nearly so pristine, and hack at it, to your heart's content.  There are collectors out there, who would pay top dollar for your bike.  Why throw money away?

E-Bay, Baby!  Spend some cash on posting an ad with multiple views, from every angle.  Take a video, and post it on YouTube, then put the link in your e-Bay ad, so interested bidders can see, and hear it run.  Show that beauty off, in all of its glory -- then run, with the money, to your PC, and start searching CL for a bike you can modify to what you really want.  Just my opinion.  Cheers!

Welcome to the forum. That is a very nice bike. If, you really want the 4-2-1 exhaust, check out the MAC exhaust systems.
