K&N Filters

shollitz
I have a 77 CB750K, and I wanted to know if anyone has put on the K&N filters?  If so, what jets did you use?  Stuck.

Also where do you get your tires?

Thanks

I got the k&n that fits in the airbox, not the pods, I did not rejet at all. I did not have to. you should have to either. All you might need to do is turn out your idle mix screw a small amount, maybe.

Well the pods might. Usually all you need is a step to maybe 115 on the mains. The awesome thing about our carbs is the idle mix is very flexible. Turning out the idle mix screw is usually all you need.
I can only really say you might need to jet, some engines do and some dont, also depends on your elevation.

I just got a k and n filter that fits the stock air box. It did not come with any oil but on the filter itself says to "oil before using."  what's the deal?  Where do I get this oil or am I good to go with its right now?

Thanks

There are oils made, for this. I am sure that any cycle shop will have it.

I have it, too.  If it is is an orange-red color, it is already oiled (the oil-free cotton media is more whitish, in color, without the oil).  They come from the factory, pre-oiled.  K&N also sells a kit:  solvent to remove the old oil, and dirt, and either a squirt bottle of their oil, or an aerosol can with their oil.  The filters are good for 50,000 miles, between cleanings.  The filter media, is cotton, not paper.  The oil allows free air flow, while being v-e-r-y sticky, to dust particles.  Hence the oil, and the periodic cleanings, and re-oiling routine.  The filter, by the way, is supposed to last 1 million miles, if cleaned, and re-oiled, every 50,000 miles.

The kits are commonly available at automotive supply stores.  If they don't stock it, they can, at least, order it for you.  If you purchase it online, you will have to pay S/H; if you order it through an auto store, they might get it for you, without charging the S/H.  By the way, re-jetting is not necessary...  If you want to, knock yourself out, but I never did, and my bike runs superbly, with stock jets.  Cheers!
