Keeping mine outside???

Curt750F
Okay so here's the deal...I go to college here in northwest Ohio and it's finally starting to warm up.  I want to bring my 1980 750F up here but I do not have access to a garage of any sort.  My bike is in very good condition and has always been garage kept.  I do have a cover and a heavy chain lock.  Although it being stolen is the least of my worries, the school I go to is in a small safe town.  What I'm more worried about is how will it being outside affects its performance. i.e. start ups and what not.

Thanks,

Curt

I wouldn't be concerned with starting or performance if you ride often and keep fresh gas in it. If you have a waterproof cover, which is best to keep the bike nice, keep the chrome cleaner handy. The cover will hold moisture even if it has vents so things may start to rust faster. Just keep an eye on it and you'll be ok.    Paul

Well saying as how there is barley in chrome on it in the first place (not a big fan of chrome, flat black on the other hand...) I would still probably wipe it down good a couple of times a week or so, just do my usual maintainable, but intensified...

Should not have a problem. At least start her up once a week if not riding and let it run enough to get good and hot. This will keep the mufflers from retaining moisture and keep the battery up.

Howdy,

I am in a similar situation. I am a college student and don't have access to a garage. I just bought a used cycleshell for a $180. I am REALLY happy with it. New they are $400. but after having mine for about a week, I think it is well worth the investment. cycleshell.com

Good Luck!

I lost my drivers license for 18 months and my bike was outside the whole time. I changed the oil and filter put new plugs in it and had it running in less then 30 minutes. As far as cosmetics go, well that is up to mother nature.
