Leaking carbs 1980 CB750F Super Sport

Dave-2

I rebuilt carbs per instructions downloaded from this site, very good but the number one carb is leaking badly out the bottom overflow tube and the number two carb is "seeping" gas from the same opening. I have noticed that the float on the number one is a different color than the others, Tan as opposed to brown. I have cleaned and re cleaned the needle seat to no avail. I put a small O ring into the opening which seemed to help but did not stop the leaking completely. What am I missing???

Did you check the overflow tubes for cracks?

No but it will be the first thing I do when I hit the bench tonight. If I switch the bowl with one of the carbs that do not leak and all is well, I can assume that the tube is damaged and take proper action. I have an extra set of carbs which I can switch off carb bowls.

Thanks

Check 'em first. I tried replacing a leaker with a compatible bowl and it still leaked. Turns out it was cracked too.

Enough to drive a man to drinking!! Well, I swapped it out and the problem is solved. I did get smart and rigged up my gas tank, so I could test the carbs prior to install. If I would have filled up the bowls with water, I am sure that is stated somewhere in that 40 page print out!!

I put the carbs back on and they were leaking again, I was ready to cry... Must have been some residual fuel from when I bench tested them and turned them topsy turvy when attaching the throttle cables. I pulled out the choke and it started right up... Just have to put it back together and take it down the road. Now wife want me to sell it, son wants to borrow it and I just want to keep it...

Thanks again for the help!!!

It's only illegal if you get caught.

If at first you don't succeed, use more lighter fluid
