The number 2 float bowl on my CB 750K8 is passing fuel through the overflow. Tonight I removed the bowl and checked the float is not stuck. On reassembly it's still passing. Any suggestions please.

Hey Peter, been awhile, nice to see you back. Did you clean the needle valve, and seat? I clean them with chrome polish and a Q-tip. Also check the little brass tube in the float bowel for cracks. Sometimes they will get water in them, and freeze and crack over the winter.

Thanks for the thoughts Tools. I only dropped the float bowl off the carbs and checked that the float wasn't stuck. I don't think water will have frozen in the brass tube as the bike is stored in a heated garage over the winter. I guess that to clean the needle valve I will have to remove the carbs? I've never done much work on the carbs so in a bit of a novice in this department.

You have round tops, so it will not be very difficult. Just clean the needle and seat with chrome polish and a Q-tip.

You don't HAVE to remove the carbs. Just drop the bowl and slid the pin out. From there you can get at the float needle seat. It's not easy, but it can be done and then the carbs don't have to come off.
While the bowl is off, fill it with water just to check for a leak. Could use gas too sine it is thinner, it may find the leak better. So, it could be the brass tube or it could be the drain screw. But in most cases it is a dirty float seat, or the needle is bad.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Well that will be a little more work then, but I have faith in you. TOOLS

Tools and Re-run, thanks for the advice and encouragement. I fixed it. I decided to bite the bullet and remove the carbs. I found that the tiny rubber tip on the float needles on #s 1 and 2 had become detached from the needle. Actually I had the same problem last year with #1 but fixed it by removing the bowl and wiggling the float a bit. Fortunately I had a couple of carb rebuild kits so I replaced the two offending needles. It only took me around 3 hours start to finish including re-running the cables for my electronic ignition because I ran them through the carbs when I did the conversion.
The only problem I have now is that my throttle is a bit stiff.

Try loosening the adjuster on the throttle cable. If they are too tight, they will make the throttle feel stiff.

I will try that but it's so stiff that it doesn't return on its own

Had that and it was a super dry cable once, and a worn out cable the first time.
First time was the original honda cable and sleeve wore through on the inside and bound up bad.
Second was a motion pro cable. Took a tennis ball and cut it in half. Drilled a small hole in 1 half at the bottom just big enough to stick the end of the cable into. Filled some oil in there and hung it up. Once the oil dripped from the bottom of the cable, I took it out of the tennis ball and hung it longer to finish dripping. Smooth cable after that.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I fixed it. I replaced the cables with some new ones that I had standing by. After that it was fine. Having said that, when I got the old cables off they were running freely and it doesn't seem as though there was anything wrong with them. Maybe something was just binding that I hadn't quite got right.

With my new found confidence regarding all things in the carburettor department I switched my carbs for a fully refurbished and polished sets that I bought a couple of years ago. Did a bit of fine adjusting with the vacuum gauges and boy does it sound sweet now.
