Looking for the perfect headlight

Half-Caf
This post was updated on .
So I blew pretty much my entire afternoon looking at bikes online. I saw some pretty sweet stuff and even got a few ideas of my own
But one thing both made me drool and drove me crazy! i love the look of the headlight on this bike, but I wasn't able to find any info about it.

Has anyone seen any similar lights with a slanted metal look? I dig it

That IS sweet! But it doesn't look finished.Doesn't appear to have the ring you need to actually mount a headlight. I'd say it's a custom piece that is not finished yet.I think its just an empty bucket.Hmm,maybe I should build one. Bring your bike over and we'll fit it up

Hmm, it looks like those lights sell for a minimum of $200
Time to get creative

Needless to say, I have been inspired. You can bet this will be showing up in my build thread (eventually...)

You guys are the best
I think getting my hands on a vrod assembly would obviously be the easiest route. However, I'm already toying with the idea of making a bucket for a Porsche or VW bug lamp.
Needless to say, I'm  pretty pumped.

Good, because it took me a while to find!
Update: I found a great deal on an aftermarket e-class assembly with projector lenses! I ended up paying only $15 for everything (bulbs included) shipped

I'm looking forward to it too, Shiny. Looks like I will be needing to purchase an hid ballast as well. Hmm...

Thanks for the tip, Lucky. I was thinking something with that slanted look though.
Besides, I already have an aftermarket e class lamp in the mail

There are a log of bikes with lights like this. check out the Aprilia Shiver, the Suzuki Gladius, Some yamaha fz1 bikes have lights like this. There are others I cannot think of right now but check overseas honda and other jap bikes and you will find a number of them.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Received my e class assembly in the mail today. Here are a couple images of it next to my sealed beam for comparison:

As you can tell, I need to trim off some fat around the edges. From here on out, I'll be posting my progress on my build thread -so check it out if you're interested in the conversion

Re: Looking for the perfect headlight

As I was doing some more reading, I came across a thread talking about different bulb designs.
This is on a Subaru forum, but there is lots of good info to be found about different bulbs and their output.
Also, there is lots of good stuff on HIR Lighting (Halogen Infrared Reflecting) which looks like a very promising alternative to HID's (more lumens than conventional halogens and no special ballasts required)

So give it a read, you won't regret it!
