Losing power

jamman18
Hi,
Had a weird thing start happening.  Rode to work with no issues and when leaving at the end of the day, the bike sounded and acted like I was either low on gas or a plug wire came off.......you know, kind of rough and loppy sounding with no get up and go.  I let it sit for a couple of days and went to get gas about 3 miles down the road and it ran great.  While at the gas station, I noticed I was leaking gas from the middle of the 3 small tubes that are positioned under the bike in front of the rear tire.  Started the bike up and it was running rough again with no get up and go!  Any ideas what gives here?

Which motorcycle?
What year?

It probably is a stuck float needle.
Those hoses are probably the carb float bowl drain hoses.

Float needle is probably stuck, like Lucky said. It is probably flooding that cylinder with raw gas, or whatever is clogging the needle is also clogging the jets.

You are correct on the hoses........tried tapping on the bowls and used some carb cleaner.   Seems to be ok for now.  Never rebuilt carbs before....looks pretty complicated.

This is a pic of what I found on the internet, although another friend said all I should need to do is take the carbs apart and clean with carb cleaner real well; don't need new parts.  Thoughts?  Also, what is the part on the left?

Carb cleaner can deform the rubber parts so make sure they are removed if you need to re use them for some reason.

Cant help you with the gasket question.

The gasket on the left is the one that goes on the very top of your carburetor. If you just pull the bowls off your carbs and clean the needles you'll probably be OK. I doubt you need to do a complete teardown and clean since you have been riding the bike. Probably just some crud got in the needle. Clear that out and you'll be back to normal
