Lower studs off front fork

opie18
Hey all. Thanks in advance for any insight you may offer. I was in the process of removing my front fork to install progressive springs and while removing the axel clamp to take off the front wheel, I discovered one of the nuts was stuck on pretty good to the forward lower stud. In my efforts to remove it, I actually snapped the lower stud in half!

Based on the diagram from the clymer manual, it looks like the lower studs screw into the slider. I am hoping they are not machined into the slider, thus resulting in me needing to find a new one. Can anyone confirm this and offer a good way to get that thing out? There is about an inch of the broken stud sticking out of the slider...I'm thinking monkey wrench.

Thanks guys! Happy trails.

P.S. It is a 1980 cb750K

Not much to work with. Get 2 skinny nuts that thread on. Tighten them together and then on the inside nut, put a wrench on and try to turn out the stud. The outside nut should act like a bolt head and you might be able to get the stud out.

After that, if it breaks again, you could drill it out starting with a small bit and moving up in size. Once you have it all out, put in a helicoil and a new stud.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Pipe wrench would be a good choice, however if you have access to a welder, you could slide a nut over the stud, and weld it onto the stud through the hole. Then screw the stud out while it is still hot.
