I have a 1981 CB 750K. What kind of mies per gallon should I be getting. As of now I'm getting about 32. Is that low? If so, what can I do to correct it?

hi mitch..that's about normal for the older bikes...back then fuel mileage wasn't that important due to $1.00 gas...and the weight of the older units was huge compared to today...hope that helps out friend...shabbabear

I agree with Shabba as well although I have seen mpg numbers on my 750 as high 45 miles but that was on a 200+ mile freeway jaunt.

I have a 81 750k that most recently recorded at 44.4 at my last mile/gal ratio. Just sync'ed the carbs the other day and I must say that really does make a change when those are set right. Im happy with close to 45 on the old champer.

averaging 34 US MPG, but that's because mine was sucking gas when I first got it, with more in town driving. Last tank 41, all highway.

I have a '79 K model. I average 43 MPG, but I run mostly two-up, highway, at an average speed of 60 MPH. I'd have to agree: it seems a bit low, and synchronizing the carbs is a very good idea. Secondly, check the idle speed: book specifies 1,000 RPM +/- 200 RPM, but they state that an accurate, mechanic's tachometer must be used, as the bike's own is too inaccurate. Checking/adjusting the air/fuel mixture is also a good idea, but to really dial this in, requires an exhaust gas analyzer. Anyway, get your bike tuned up, install NGK Iridium Spark Plugs (fire near-perfect, every time; easier starts; incredibly quick starts with the weak, OEM coils), and you will likely see improvements not only in mileage, but also performance. My '79 CB would get about 45mpg combined city/highway, a little higher if all highway.
My '84 Shadow gets about 50mpg. 700cc vs. 750cc, and the Shadow is a bit lighter.
My 2004 Honda Metro blows them both away: 100 mpg. 50cc vs. 700, and 35 mph vs 70+. Luke M

My 2011 Harley Rode Glid Custom gets close to 50mpg with the 103 motor. The Honda Valkery I had averaged around 33 mpg but in a head wind that would fall to 23 real quick. Plus any fast interstate 75+ driving I had to stop every 100 miles and it had a 5 gal tank! It was one of thoes bikes that you run out of gas and had to switch to reserve to get to a gas station.

My '76 F has semi open exhaust and pods and is jetted above stock. I average 42-45. I got 46 over this past weekend and have gotten a best of 51 with strictly interstate driving. I have heard that the automatics get less.
