My 1980 CB750f

Av8tor
Hello all!

I can finally stop lurking and join the member/owner ranks!

Don't tell the guy I bought it from, but I stole this bike. I paid $350 for it last month. Just got it running good and passed inspections this week. When I purchased it, the clutch was always slipping and with the clutch engaged it would creep forward in first gear. Strangest thing.... I adjusted everything possible to no avail. I read through all the threads, but didn't find anything that related. Lots of other helpful tips though! I didn't want to jump on here asking for help straight off, so I went though it again, and found that the bolts holding the lifter plate were just finger loose! Tightened those up and presto! I had a perfectly running bike. I'm so excited because it's such a fun bike to ride.

Looking forward to being part of the community.

!

See you on the road

Seeing as I've never had a CB before, can you tell me, Is the engine chatter normal? Sounds like I can hear the cams going...

Some engine noise is expected. However if the noise sounds like the cam chain is hitting something, and goes away when, you give it gas. It means your carbs need synced.

I think perhaps it is the starter that I am hearing. Is it the same on these bikes, as some similar models (GS1000), that it never fully disengages?
