My breaks keep locking up...

Troy Copley
My breaks were not working for a bit so i bleed the system and got them to work pretty good, kinda touchy, but they were actually stopping the bike.  They have locked up on me twice since then.  Yesterday they just unlocked on their own but today i released to bleeder valve for a second to let some of the pressure out and they were fine for the 8 min trip back to the house.  Does anyone know what my problem is?

Sounds like the master cylinder is plugged up, and releasing the pressure from the caliper.

You will probably need to clean/rebuild the master cylinder. It's not hard to do. You just need the kit, and the special snap ring pliers. I got mine from vintagecb750.com
there is another thread on here where I posted a link to a good video on youtube on rebuilding the master.

A rebuild kit is a good idea but what usually happens is that there are 2 holes inside the master, the small one gets blocked up and pressure cant be released. Take a small wire and poke into the hole and that will remove the blockage but it is temporary till you can dis-assemble the master to clean it. You may or may not need a kit. Mine was pretty bad but I cheaped it and did not get a kit as I was broke, that was like 6 years ago and it still does not leak. So disassemble and clean and see what happens or if your piston in the master is really bad, get the kit.

Front and rear rebuilds will be the same? Not the parts but the labor involved?

Depends on what model you have, and what type of breaks it has.

Here is a link to a really good video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W24asyNujs (we need to put this link up in the manual section, or something, for future reference.)
Be sure to get the special snap ring pliers. I got mine from vintagecb750.com for $10.00. Well worth the price.

I used a small flat head precision screw driver to get mine out. I'm cheap like that sometimes.
