My first CB 750

This post was updated on .
Last night i bought a running and riding 1976 CB 750A. I dont know one thing about the mechanics of the bike.  I have been on bikes for the last 35 years , but mostly Suzuki GS series bikes and some various Hondas and Kawasakis, This is my first fully automatic bike though..  I did have a 98 Shadow 1100 VT for 12 years also. I am looking forward to learning about this bike. I will take some pics and post later. Right now though the most important thing is to find a downloadable service manual for the bike.  Thjanks, Chuck.

Chuck, first off, welcome to the forum! As for a manual, I thought we had one, but for the time being, there is a large 69-78 manual which will have some special info for the A. It is a large download but will cover much of what you need. I will see if I can find one for the A if we do not have it.

We do not have it but that manual will cover some of it BUT I did find an A manual. I just have to get it on my pc at home so I can merge the pdf files for upload.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Well the first thing i have on my mind is that i notice that at an idle theres a rather pronounced clunking from down by the what i suspect is the torque converter area.  I did some googling at work and found out what that big round area on the right is. I rode the bike to work about 19 miles one way and it ran great. Once its up and cruising the clunking goes away.  So I was thinking maybe carbs sync needs done or that the idle is set too low. I looked all over and didnt find an idle adjustment screw.  Any advise on these  situations??

To add pictures, just use the "insert image" tab at the top of reply box. the idle adjust screw is on the No#4 carb. Just look over the top of it, and you will see it towards the front. These bikes are noisy at idle, but it sounds just like carbs out of sync. I would go on and check the carbs myself though.

Herres some pics i took after i washed it and done a bit or chrome polishing  today. The bike wasnt rusty..just that yellowish tarnish. It basically wiped right off..  I took like 27 pics, so i will post them all. They are kinda randomly selected. I took pics of all the original stickers , the inside of the tank is spotless, seat pan is emaculant, just an over all super clean bike for its age.

If you really want to know what size they are I'm sure someone here will know, or find out. Are planning on rebuilding, or upgrading them?
I just finished looking at your pictures. Can you detail mine next? that is one clean bike. Also I have never seen that seat, grab bar, and rear turn signal mounts before. Do you know if they were an upgrade, or option?

Re: My first CB 750

Guy I bought it from told me it was his father in laws and he bought it new.  This is my first CB and i can only assume the bike is all original and stock. As for detailing..All i did was wash it down with some purple power and rinsed with a hose.  The chrome had just a bit or tarnish here and there. It wasnt even rust yet. I took some chrome polish and a rag and rubbed it in a little bit and wiped it off.. Wasnt that bad of a problem to polish at all. I did the entire process in about 3 hrs.
