This is waiting in the wings, and ever evolving V-twin
I bought this about 4 years ago, but I don't really know when exactly I started transformation


Bought a rear wheel to front conversion kit from a fellow member over at DTT.  It was pretty sweet, but I had to have it machined to accept bearings to fit an R1 axle.  I had bought the bike originally to do an Englebert "Zero" inspired cafe, but after some thought and inspiration from Johnny Ryland at Classified Moto and Sepp Koch, I decided to go in a totally different direction.  So, an R1 front end was to be grafted on to the XV's head and an R6 mono shock would replace the massive stock air shock



I used 2 18" XJ rear wheels so the front and rear would match.  The stock set up was 16" rear, 19" front.  Didn't want that!

Throughout the transformation, the bike could've easily gone either bobber or cafe.

Since I was not a bobber fan (I am now), I was determined to bend it to my will and make it a cafe!  Ha!

One winter, I spent detailing the engine (10k miles, starter in excellent condition!)



Since the beginning, I have always had issue with the tank.  Since those Mojave tanks have been bought up and appear on so many cafe builds, I searched for something Yamaha!  One day, I found a mid 70's XS400 tank.  Bam!  That's about it untill the cb750 is done.  All I've put on since this last pic is a Galfer braided line.

Wow,that's a huge transformation so far.Very nice and clean looking work. I'll be curious to watch this one finish up. It's looking nice bud.

I used to think that the Yamaha Viragos were one of the ugliest bikes ever made, but they sure do have potential. If I ever get caught up on my projects list (yea right) I would like to do a Virago bobber.

My  last bike was an 82 virago 750. Didn't take it that far, but was still a great bike and had lots of fun on it. Great job!

I think my Vulcan is more ugly than a Virago. It's close though. They both deserved to be cut and welded on.

Plus, the Virago looks easier to work on. Every section of the Vulcan manual begins with "Step 1: Remove engine"!. And in half the procedures the second step is to split the cases.  If you took it to a shop to change the stater the job would be about $1000.00. If you broke the shift rod, which is a weak point in the internal linkage, it would be about $2000 to fix at a dealer. Talk about disposable motorcycles.

I just replaced a stator in a VN 750 Vulcan. First step "Remove engine." At least it's not hard to take out.

I think mine's shot as well. It hit's 14.4 volts at around 1500-2000 RPM and starts dropping to around 13.2 at 5000 RPM. Haven't had a chance to test the AC current yet but.

That does not seem too bad. It does not drop below 12.
