Hi guys,
I am completely new to this forum and to any forum in this planet. Never have done this before and in fact not sure if I am doing this properly since I posted something a week ago and I didn't get a single reply!
I am having some problems with my headlight and I was wondering if there's anyone out there who might be able to give me a hand!
Cheers!!!!

The actual problem is that the headlight is not working unless I press the flashing button. When I switch on the bike, only the position light (small bulb) is turning on but not the main bulb. I have checked the fuses and othing there, I bought a new bulb and does not work either... CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE? I am going on a 2 weeks trip fairly soon and I don't really fancy going without the headlight working properly.
THANKS!!!

What year and model is your bike? That information is critical to receiving assistance. Also, what country are you in? Your terms ("flashing button" and "position light") are unfamiliar to me (USA). Cheers!

Hi mate, apologies for the lack of ESSENTIAL info. I am in UK. The bike is a Honda CB750 1991-92. When I say "flashing button" I am talking about that one that you press when, for example, you want to give light signals to other road users. The one that when you press it switches from low to high beam. (the one that only works when you keep it pressed)
"Position Light" is the small bulb that is inside the headlight case.... is a very small one. (Accorgin to the manual it is called Position Light bulb)
So, the problem is that when I switch on the bike only the small bulb (position light bulb) is on, but the headlight bulb is not. Now, when I keep pressed that "flashing button" the high beam goes on but only whilst I keep it pressed.
I hope that makes sense!
Cheers!

Well I would check the wiring, the problem will most likely lie there. I am guessing the switch for lo/hi is dirty or broken inside the housing.

When us Yanks flash someone, it involves the removal of specific clothing to expose a specific body part .
The bikes over here do not have the flash button feature. I would trace the wire from the Hi-Lo, and flash button to the headlight. You probably have a bad connection, or as Re-run said a bad switch.

Thanks guys. I will follow what you are saying though I must admit that it concerns me a bit as I am not very experienced doing this stuff and I don't really want to mess it up even more 'cause I am meant to be going to Morocco on this bike in a couple of weeks.
I will check and let you know how it goes.
Cheers!

Manny, you will find your wiring is quite different to the US bikes. I grew up with these bikes in the UK (Hull) and, when i got one here in the States I couldn't work out why the indicatos and the headlight wouldn't turn off. Most of the contributors to this forum are in the US and have US spec bikes. Where are you?

Hi Pete,
I am in the UK. However, I believe my bike is an import but not 100% where from as I bought it second hand a few months ago and there are no documents that state the bike origin.
Cheers!

Here in the states, the headlights are normally wired to be on either when the key is ON, or when the engine is running. Both my Honda bikes were on with the key, and my wife's scooter is on when the engine is running. If the headlight works when it's set to pass or high beam, it may be a wiring issue, but I'd try a new bulb first. You could test the bulb for continuity with an ohm meter. Three connections: one is ground, which is connected to one side of both elements, one to the other side of the low beam, and the other to the other side of the high beam. If it's a halogen bulb, be careful not to touch the glass with your fingers. When you light it up after touching it, the bulb will go bad in fairly short order due to skin oils on the glass.

I do have the manual for 91-9x years. It is 40MB in size. I don't know if we could send that through something like gmail. I will try to upload it tonight if I can and then you can download it.

Cool. I bought this bike a couple of months ago and though it is running fairly well, there are some bits that need fixing so having the manual would be great!
I had a quick look yesterday at the wiring behind the headlight and it looks bloody confusing! Seems like at some point, someone replaced the headlight unit and probably other bits.

Hi All,
I managed to fix the bloody light!!! There was some rust inside the switch that wasn't allowing the connection to work properly so now I've got lights!!!
Thanks for all your help guys!!!!!!
