I have an early Comstar that came off of a 76 F.It was not original to the bike, but it did line up correctly. I need it to line up on a 78K. The later model engine has a different front sprocket location than the earlier ones. Approximately 10mm ,or 3/8'', out board compared to the earlier models.
Also, from what I can tell, spoke wheels and Comstars use different cush drives/sprocket carriers. The 4 stud version on the left is from a spoke wheel and the 5 stud version on the right is from a Comstar.

Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks

What he needed was a wheel to go with the cush drive that fit his oddball engine. TOOLS

Ooohhhh I see that now.
So he Has an earlier frame and stuck a 78K motor into it, is that it? now the sprockets won't line up?
If that is the case, then the swingarm and axle assembly from an f2 should re-align everything.
Am I still missing something?

Yes you are. The swingarm's all have the same dimensions, so that's not the problem. The wheel he has works with a 69-76 engine, so he got a cush drive, for a 77-78 engine/wheel combo. However it turns out that he has an oddball wheel with a five fingered cush drive. Don't know what model/year it is. What he needs now is a wheel to fit the correct cush drive he does have.

Best I can tell,DOHC 750 bikes have the 5 fingered drive. Also 650 DOHC and SOHC 500 and 550 all use the 5 stud setup. Basically, every CB other than a SOHC 750 uses the 5 stud.Go figure.
Money on it's way BRO

Your wrong. The DOHC 750's use the 4 finger.

Well actually, the 77/78K has a wider swingarm then the earlier years. I think the 2/3 might as well but I know the K does. They use wider tires too and can fit a larger tire.
So because of this, offsets are different after 76.

The swing arms are wider on those bikes, but thats not why it needs the offset cush drive. All of the rear wheels are centered in the bike regardless of tire width. The primary sprocket sticks out further on the 77/78 bikes. No idea why, they just do.

Hmmmm. The plot thickens...That why I like to say "best I can tell". Some many differences,so little brain for me to figure it out.

Have you checked the hub? The hub might be thicker, after all the rim on the 77/78k is wider. That would be about the only place I could see the change. I suppose the cush drive plate could be more conical.
I know cyclex makes an offset sprocket but that doesn't help your cush issue much.
