I've never had to adjust a DOHC clutch yet, so I can't say much. But it's true, the bike will always roll free in neutral, but will have some drag when in gear and the lever pulled back. They're shouldnt be so much drag that it is difficult to hold the bike still, though. Engine running, flat ground, first gear, clutch pulled in you should be able to sit still without the bike moving forward or needing to hold the brake. If not, something is out of whack and needs adjusting. The FSM is your friend here.

The internal springs are what causes the clutch to hold itself engaged. If they are weak your clutch will slip. The opposite of what you have.

Ohh, and about plates. If all else fails and the clutch still won't disengage it could be plates. If the steels warp they can drag. Because if they aren't laying flat anymore they are taking up additional space = no free play.

Yeah, it's a big difference. Trying to push a bike in gear with the clutch pulled in is pretty hard.

It will never roll as freely in gear with the clutch in as it will in neutral. However, if you're convinced the clutch is dragging and the cable is set for the correct amount of free play, you need to adjust at the pushrod. Remove the very large screw head on the clutch housing and you will see a 10mm nut with a screw in the centre. Loosen the nut then turn the screw clockwise (while stopping the nut from turning) until it meets resistance. Back off a quarter turn, then re-tighten the nut while stopping the screw from turning. Adjust the cable to give the correct amount of free play at the lever and that's it. If you're still convinced that it's dragging (does it creep forward when in gear with the engine running and the lever pulled in? Is it difficult to get into neutral with the engine running? these are both signs of a dragging clutch) then the problem must be in the clutch or the wrong oil (too thick/heavy) is being used.
