Never use Loctite again... Something far better!

sgtslag
On a Voyager forum, Loctite was being discussed, and the consensus was that it was a good idea to secure most nuts, bolts, and the like, with Loctite to prevent things from coming loose, and causing an accident...  Today, Steve in Florida, who happens to be a professional mechanic, shared that he rarely uses Loctite products on any bike, and most certainly not on his own!  Instead, he smears some RTV silicone on the threads:  it is strong enough to prevent the nuts/bolts from vibrating loose, and when it is time to remove them, the RTV silicone just shreds, quite easily, without mucking anything up!

I was thinking about getting some Loctite Green, for securing nuts already in place, but this stuff requires localized heat to remove the nut/bolt later.  RTV silicone will prevent stuff from vibrating loose, but a determined effort to twist a nut/bolt, will just shred the silicone.  I thought Steve in Florida's idea was brilliant.  Sorry if this is 'common knowledge', but I've never heard it before, thought I would share.  Cheers!

Yes most mech. and auto body use that fo years, take your body bolts off that body puddy used to fill the thread gap. and  also most mech. don't use torx.wenches ?either..unless heads or alluminum,  I'd break half my bolts

long bolts 2-3 "  and only useing about 1/2 inch of threads(may only have threads towards end,put some blu.(r.v.) under the head of the bolt will stop water from going in hole and causing rust16
Such as the two long scews that hold down the breather cover on the rocker cover ?
comes to mind did other day.
