New 750 owner

Hello all,
My name is Mark and I just picked up this 1982 Nighthawk 750 and spring can not come soon enough!!
I've owned a 450 Nighthawk about 7 years ago so i have some experience with Nighthawks. The one thing that bugs me about this 750 is that the toolkit is stored under the seat yet you need a 10mm wrench to get the seat off to get to the tool kit?? Anyone have the same problem? i hope to be posting more as I get my bike ready for the riding season.

That is kind of ironic on the tool kit. Piute may be onto something, problem is I went to a couple different OEM parts microfiche sites and seeing bolt #11 listed as both an 8X12 and 10X12.
Must have had a running change on the production line. Might just want to verify what yours actually has before buying.

I would hang a 10mm wrench from my keychain, but I have never needed to work on a Honda beside the road. Nice bike. I have always wanted a Nighthawk.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I stand corrected, it is a 12mm wrench to get the seat bolts off. I thought about trying knurled thumb screws but I'm thinking that they would have to be very tight so that they don't vibrate loose.
I just picked up a 12mm stubby ratchet wrench which I plan on turning into a keychain after cutting off the open end. This way it's small enough to carry in my pocket.
Does anyone know where i might pick up a headlight trim ring for this bike? It is the only piece that is scuffed on the bike and I'd really like to replace it.
I must say that this Nighthawk site is my favorite. I've learned a lot about Nighthawks by just browsing the older posts. I'll be checking in often.

Hellcat.  Great name.
The license on my bike is 58TBF.  58 for the year I was born, and TBF stands for the old Grumman Avenger from WW2 days.  Naturally, my old 750 was named Avenger, and my current Shadow is Avenger II.

but yesterday I got the call that my bike is ready to go for my summer ride [like that's going to do me any good this month]. still don't understand the reason for valve shims, but compression is 150 all the way around thing is hot to trot.

hmmm . . . tool kit . . . I have TOOLS' kit but am in the midst of updating . . .
