Hi everyone,
My guess is that I'll be using these forums and the advice on it quite a lot the coming months, so I figured I might as well propperly introduce myself.
Together with a friend, I (26 year old guy living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands) bought a 750K(z) '80 with 81k KM a few weeks ago. It hadn't been running for 14 years and was stored in a barn for all those years with the intention of the previous owner restauring it. However, he passed away and a friend of his had the bike for sale.
I have some experience with motorbikes as I own a BMW K100RT '88 which gets me to work on a daily basis. However, somehow I felt the need to explore working on motorbikes more regularly, which a few months ago led to me starting to work at a local motorcycle garage once a week for fun. And to be honest, fun it is! Which in turn made me decide to buy an old motorcycle and revive/restore it. Since I've always had the wish of owning a CB I looked around with a friend at a few bikes and ran into this bike below:
Like I said, it hadn't been running for over 14 years, and although the electrics worked of course it didn't start. Nonetheless, for the age it looked like a well maintained bike with little rust so we decided to give it a go and bought it!
Looks pretty sweet!
As far as I can tell the seat, exhaust and handlebars aren't stock.
I bought a Haynes manual and coincidentally worked on a CB750 Nighthawk at the local garage a few weeks ago. Since then we've lifted the Carbs, pre-cleaned it and put it in an ultrasonic bath.
Now I am wondering. I have a whole load of questions, but am unsure on whether I should start a topic for each and every question, or perhaps start a thread in the project section since I am taking photo's during parts of the repairs?
As a starter: My bike's a '80er, but the carbs are 79'ers (pic is below, just cleaned them before the ultrasonic bath!). This this mean that the carbs aren't original? Or was there some overlap in the models for those years?
Hope to enjoy posting here as much as possible and to also return the favour of all the information being shared! Although it must be noted that since I am Dutch, my timeline's probably quite different from most of you, so I won't be a quick responder.
