New Member (and new bike owner) with a carb question...

brad063072
Hello everyone.  I bought an '81 CB750 Custom about two weeks ago.  I owned a bike when I was 19 years old (i'm 41 now), but that was just for a few months.  So, for that reason, i've literally had NO experience working on motorcycles.  Over the past week I have rebuilt the carbs on my CB750.  I just finished re-assembling everything today and am ready to start trying to figure out how to re-install them.  I've done a LOT of reading, as well as watched a few videos, about the carbs.  In the posts and articles that i've read, it is suggested to "sync" the carbs.  My question is this though....tonight I read an article about doing a "bench sync".  Would someone mind explaining the difference between a bench sync and any other type of sync?   Thanks everyone!!!

A bench sync will get you in the ball park. However to get the carbs properly synced, you need to do it with the engine idling, using a set of vacuum gauges. Things like ignition timing, valve setting, and cam chain tension will affect how the carbs sync. So before syncing the carbs set the timing, valves, and cam chain adjustment.
