New Member with Bummer News (parting out a titled bike!)

so i scored what i thought to be a great deal on a 1980 cb750f, was psyched to fix it up to be a café racer, and then eventually had to accept that at 5'7 and 135lbs the bike was just too big for me. With title and new ignition, side panels, etc. in hand I thought it would be an easy sell, but it's turned out to be a total stale mate, so i find myself committing what I consider to be a small form of blasphemy... parting out an almost there bike :(

Feel free to check out some pics of the bike as she is right now

So with an external battery, and a borrowed gas tank we got the engine running, so the bulk of the bike is in pretty good shape, but I have no idea where to begin with parting it out!

Should i start big and then move smaller? Focus on the major pieces (e.g. the engine) and worry about the little stuff later? Really any advice would be of enormous help! Thanks so much. Peace, MGA

I've been trying to sell it for almost a month now- lowered my asking price from $750 to $650 and still can't sell it. I don't know whether it's market saturation or what (I mean, there are definitely a lot of CBs out there, but I'm still surprised). Here's a link to one of the ads I posted: CB 750F

Is this your first bike?? -- 10,000 little Japanese guys ride these bikes . I just don't see a problem. -- Sorry. -- First question is , how many miles on it?? -- Next question is , where are you?? -- I just might be interested if it isn't too far to travel .

Not my first bike (shockingly enough) and I'm in DC. My friends who own a shop have even been helping me out, I'm really surprised its been this difficult as well, it's just that at this point I'm sitting on money I'd love to be putting into my "my-sized" café racer. Definitely check out the link to the ad I posted before. The bike is definitely still a project, but, heck, if I could roll it off the center stand by myself it would definitely be one I'd take on

A bit too far for me to travel as I'm in Arkansas . -- You should be able to sell it as a whole bike. -- Have you tried ebay?? -- You'll probably make more parting it out , but it'll take quite a while to glean all your money , not to mention all the time to teardown and ship it out. -- Good luck to you. -- Otto

Might try a site other than Kiiji.  Put it on ebay and you'll most likely get what you're asking.  I still question the size issue.  I'm 6' and find these bikes small.  My 94 YZ250 is bigger!

I did eBay, craigslist (four times), etc. the kijiji one just happened to still be up. The size is an issue bc of the way the bike is weighted too- my f650 isn't much shorter, but the 550lbs
of engine in the front just seems to be too much (me trying to make smart choices is new, but 3 knee surgeries later I'm thinking it's a good thing)

Yeah I think I might give eBay another whirl (not as a classified this time) maybe I just had unlucky timing. Thanks for the well wishes.

Best

Sounds like you're on the right track . Nursing a knee injury myself , and hoping no surgery . -- Have you tried the DOHC Custom forum ?? -- Put it on there in the for sale section . Many riders always looking for parts / bikes . -- Check it out . -- www.dohcc.com

Yeah, i was stupid enough to do it all twice, but the key was just being super-vigilant about prehab and rehab. Oh yeah and actually paying attention to pain.

Haven't tried DOHC but am on my way! Thanks for the suggestion!
