New Speedo Breakdown

Schlutt
I have a ’79 CB750K that I picked up in a trade last year. It’s my first bike and I have learned a lot riding it and wrenching on it. I want to change out the bulky gauge cluster so I bought a “2.5" Chrome Mini Speedometer w/ Black Face & LED Indicator Lights” along with the matching Tach and mounted it using the “Dual Mini Gauge Cluster Console Bracket.,” all from Dime City Cycles. Worked an looked great for a while until last weekend I took it out for a longer run and noticed that the speedo needle jumped up to 90MPH when the guy I was riding with was at 75mph and about 15 min. later the needle went to 0 MPH. The mileage counter and the LEDs still work. Any ideas? Did I mount something wrong? Any help would be great.

Might be your cable. did you check to see if its broke or binding?
It's only illegal if you get caught.

If at first you don't succeed, use more lighter fluid

That was the first thing I checked because it did break on my tach. I will check it again tonight. However, would the odometer still work if the cable was broke or binding, because it was still running even though the speedo needle was showing 0 MPH.

Tools,

I kind of figured that was the case. Do you have any tips for mounting the speedo and tach using the parts I described above from DCC? I don't want to buy a new one and have the same issue. Do you think it could have been a vibration issue?

I doubt that the mounting had anything to do with the speedometer failing. It was most likely cheap Chinese quality.
