New here, looking for advice

bowtech
Howdy all! I'm buying a 1979 cb750 from my dad and first thing I notice that I don't like about the bike is the winny exaust. Sure I'll have question down the line but for now can someone tell me how or if I can change this to get a deeper tone? Also, anything I should look out for with this bike, any weak points or anything like that! Much thanks in advance!!

Bloody carbs seem to be the main problem with all the 750s, and the built in clutch rattle is something you learn to live with , unless you like rebuilding clutches every now and then. Apart from that they are solid bikes and seem to go for ever , so long as the carbs are working as they were intended to do.

Thats for the heads up with the carbs! Wonder if thats why the bike stalls all the time.

When it  comes to the carbs on these bikes, nothing suprises me anymore with them. When they are good the are brilliant, when they are bad they are diabolical. Check underneath the carbs between number 3 & 4 carb and you will see a knurled black "screw" That is the idle adjustment screw. Screw it in several turns until it (hopefully ) will idle. If its too fast just unscrew it until you can get it to idle at around 1000 +/- 50 rpm at normal operating temps.  Worst case scenario if you simply cant get it to idle at all, is to remove them and clean out all the jets. Have fun !!!!

I've messed with the bike some and I found that its not the idle. There is something funky with the clutch. As soon as I put the bike in gear it wants to die. I've tried to adjust the clutch at the lever but, it must be the clutch its self.

It sounds like you have a sticking clutch. It happened to me on several occasions. Here is what I did. Put the bike on the main stand so that the rear wheel is off the ground. Engage first gear and then start the bike. Once you have got the rear wheel  turning  fairly fast, then with your right foot stomp very hard on the brake pedal.By doing this you are releasing the clutch plates that have become stuck due to standing for long periods Worked a treat for me when I had a sticking clutch, and since then its never happened again. Hope this is of some help

drill some smaller holes around the big one , will sound better, put a 4 to one custom exhaust on about 300.00 will kick butt. These bikes are really reliable with plenty of power and weight so be careful not a beginner bike.

Yes, the bikes are nice but, no worries I'm not a begginer. I thank everyone for the help here but something has me thinking? Y'all talk about a 4 into 1 exaust, my bike only has 3 pipes comming out. Is it smaller than a 750? Or is it older than I was told?
