New member with new bike

DAS68
Hi all- Dave from the UK here! I have finally got a CB750 after many years of wanting one. I have a near complete but in bits 79 DOCH. The tachometer  cable where it comes out of the valve cover has broke off and I doubt I will be able to fix it so I was going to plug the hole and need some advice on what options are available to run a tachometer from another source should as the the brake rotor, would I need to swap the original front wheel and callipers for something else ? Any advice would be great as I am a novice

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum.
Firstly, what has actually broken? Is it the cable fitting or the camshaft cover?

The idea of the tacho is to measure engine revolutions, so using a brake rotor wouldn't work as it would turn the tacho into a speedo!

Hi Maz mate, thanks for the welcome. That makes sense to me know re speedo and tachometer there is no cam cup and the cam holder has a jagered edge so something has come off I think Not sure how you attached images from my iPad to show you. Do I actually need a tachometer ?

No you don't need a tacho, in fact if you search on here for 'Tach plugs', one of the top men actually manufactures metal plugs to block off the hole -( I think it's Tools1 who makes them).

If you're planning on modifying the bike (cafe style?) then you wouldn't want the tacho anyway.
I'm pretty sure, though, that what you have could be repaired.

It Shinyribs that makes the tach plugs. If you do want a tach though, you can get an electrical style. Might not look quite stock, but I bet you could find 1 that would fit decent next to the speedo. They don't have to be super accurate, but you want it waterproof.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

When you open the text box to start typing your post, there is an "insert image" button above.
If you manage to add a few pictures, it will be easier for someone to establish if it can be repaired.
