Newbie help with my CB750k oil issue :(

Midnightspecial
Hey there,
I'm new to the CB750 scene and motorcycles maintinece in general. I just bought my first CB750k for $900.00 and love the bike! But when I went to check tje oil level on the stick whole the bike being cold and on the center stand it didn't regsister any oil at all! So I got a little worried and I drain the oil that was in the bike and what came out was approx 1 1/2 qts of oil...not being used to owning a bike is this something i should be worried about? And what else should I be looking for? The bike has 41,000 on the clock..any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Welcome! You'll find a lot of information on this board.

Step 1: Locate the Factory Service manual on this board for your bike here.
Step 2: Read it through at least twice.

There should be about 3+ quarts of oil in your engine/trans.  The best way to check it is to put it on the center stand, leave it sit for 20-30 minutes so all the oil drains down to the bottom, then unscrew the dipstick, wipe it, and then put it back in the oil fill hole.  Do not screw it back in: let it rest on the top.  Then pull it and read the level.

There's lots of opinions about oil for these bikes.  You can't go wrong using strictly motorcycle oil from your local auto or MC shop.  Some people use synthetic MC oil, some use synthetic diesel oil.  If you DO use these, stay away from oils that say Energy Conserving.  These have additives that will mess with the wet clutch, causing problems with shifting.

I hope this helps.

What year of bike?
The 69-78 bikes had 3 points where to drain oil. The side tank, the filter housing, and the pan.
You drain the side tank first, then filter, finally, the pan.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
