Next stupid Carb Question from me

Okay here's the stupid question.

I have taken the tops and bowls off. I have removed the Accelerator Pump and the Air Cutoff Valve. I have pulled and cleaned the jets, the floats etc. Everything has been cleaned except the bodies.

How can I clean out the bodies without breaking them apart? Can I just hose them out with the spray type Carb Cleaner? (Making sure of course to get it into the fuel tubing to get it in nice and deep.) I know the bodies need to be cleaned out because I saw what came out when I drained the gas, not to mention the condition of the float bowls.

Thanks in advance.

You are better off in the long run to take them apart. You will also get better results of a good cleaning. I completely disassembled mine and used the spray carb cleaner and let them soak. Make sure your throttle and choke operates smoothly when putting back together. I would also replace all o-rings and fuel lines if it's not been done. Any auto parts store will have the fuel hose and hardware stores will have o-rings in the plumbing repair section.

Good point Matthew, there is a difference in the rubber composition used. I've rebuilt a few older Goldwing carbs using these o-rings and no leaks after a few years but you may want to play it safe and go with the OEM. I use only the OEM bowl gaskets and o-rings and needles/seats.

Well the Carbs are back in one piece. They went back together much easier than I expected.

They look almost new they are so clean.

Tomorrow I shall be putting them back on the bike and playing with them. Hopefully this will be the cure to my problems.
