No spark.

trikeboiler
Hi, thanks for replying to my last question, I did reply myself but it didn't get to the forum for some reason. Anyway my bike is a 1979 model, the item that sits behind the battery box and in front of the rear mudguard has the letters OKI written on it, as I said before it appears to have a black substance coming from it, also I don't know what this thing is, I am sure its to do with the spark. it looks like a single unit with two wires coming from it. any info would be great. Thanks.

Some people will call them CDI's. Honda calls them spark units. If one's oozing black goo it definitely sounds like goner.

When I got my '79 CB750L, both spark units had melted the 'black goo', but they still worked fine. The 'goo' is just a potting compound to seal the components, so I mixed up some black epoxy and poured that in each one til it levelled out and they are still working 8 years later!
