Oil Leak

Seacat
My engine hs a small oil leak on the front. Nothing major, it's weeping oil around the forward Cam Adjustment Screw. (It's a slow enough leak where I can ride the bike several hundred miles before I notice any kind of drop in the oil level.)

Has anyone else here dealt with this problem? Is it usual? Do you have to do an engine tear down to fix it? Any other ways to fix the blasted thing? (It's annoying.)

Thanks in advance.

Cat

Oh and the beast is running nicely now thank you very much. The idle was set to right around 500 RPM which was a touch on the low side.

I'm not quite sure what model year you have or what cam adjustment screw you are talking about. Can you give a couple specifics and is the leak up top? My 75 has a 4 into 1 exhaust and likes to idle around 1000-1200 rpm's.

Hi I had the same leak and there is an ~O ring under the adjusting nut where the bolt is. carefull when you remove the bolt and adjusting nut to replace the O ring to follow the procedure for your year of bike to adjust the front tensioner to specs to repace the bolt and lockdown nut.Hope this soves your leak.

The bike is a 1981 CB750C.

The Oil Leak seems to be around the bolt in the front of the engine that is used to adjust the cam chain.

This is the DOHC engine as fitted to the CB750 K . I would be very hesitant in removing the adjusting bolt, incase semething falls off inside the motor. Why not slacken off the lock nut , NOT the adjusting bolt a few turns, and apply some form of sealent around the adjuting bolt thread and then retighten the lock nut. I have a miniscule seapage from the rear one , but doesnt leak or use any oil. Just a wipe down with a rag and thats good enough for another 5 months

Hi again the adjusting bolt only applies tension to a slide shaft that keeps tesion for the cam chain, the leak is there besause the O ring is wore out, If you look at a diagram from the dealer it will show the purpose of the bolt, I just replaced mine and the nut with the O ring was about 5 dollars in canada, as a reminder to adjust the bolt after as per instructions, I own a 1982 750c nighthawk and the adjusting specs changed for 1982 as per 1981 engines. Hope this info will help.
