Your putting your half moons on backwards. The large part goes towards the collar. Also there is supposed to be a gap. You just want to tighten it against the crush washer.

ok ..so if i flip them around the crown collar wont go on.  Do i jam the half moons over the chrome part of my header that you can see? (like do i jam them into the gap that surrounds the chrome lip of the header)

You just need to turn them around.

If I turn them around the crown collar hits the half moon rim and the crown wouldn't go in far enough in to the stud bolts ????

Re: PLEASE PLEase help me

Strange, my 1/2 moons have the large end touching the copper crush washers.  2 of my 1/2 moons were smaller than the others, and I needed to bend them out a fair amount to ensure that they didn't slip under the lip on the aluminium (not chrome) flanged gaskets.

Once I made sure that the half moons weren't sliding down into the flanged gaskets I was able to get a great seal.

One note, are those the original header nuts?  The ones on my 1981 CB750K aren't closed end cap nuts, and yours appear to be closed (could be that I'm just seeing them wrong).

The crush washer goes into the head before the exhaust pipe goes in. Then the half moons go on the exhaust pipe with the wide end facing the collar. PERIOD!!!!!

Haha, sorry Tools, didn't mean to call into question that your instructions were wrong, just mentioning how mine were set up.  Very possible that the PO reversed them.  I'll probably try to flip them around this weekend and see if I can get an even better seal.

That being said, any ideas on where I can get new half moons? Are these commonly available from auto shops?

Re: PLEASE PLEase help me

I went to two shops yasterday that do older cb's and they said that I had them right . And the one said most of the time they go on like you said tools but the way the halfs moons are with a big lip they would go on like you though .  I did the way I started and all seems right . See I tried a dry run with old copper donuts in before I ask on here . And they leaked exhaust gas bad so I though I had things wrong . So after a week putting them on and off bagging up my new painted motor and repainting it again and again . I asked here . I didn't  want to put new copper donuts on if I didn't have it right and messing them up.    So please didn't think I'm being a dick sayIng  tools was wrong .  I really  appreciate the help and all the help everyone was done for me with this web site I would be so lost .. 😃😃😃

Yours must be altogether different from any I have seen, and I have seen a few. Can, you post a picture of the end of the exhaust header that goes into the head? I would like to see it.
