PROJECT 72 HONDA CB750

racsbikes

Good evening,

Just want to seek your expertise in restoring my 72 honda cb750.

I have several concerns.

1. Do you suggest to have my orig rim, nipples and spokes chromed or get a brand new ones from ebay like the one posted NOS rims and nipples and spokes from buchannan?

2. I need to replace the ff parts. Can i use the later models  (73-76 cb750k) as replacement. Are they compatible?

    a. Carburator
    b. Front fork (tubes leaking)
    c. Left and right switch assembly
    d. ignition coil

3. Where do you suggest to buy parts?

Hope to hear from you guys.

   Hello, ,
Myself and others prefer Vintage 750  ,had bad experience with an Ol Barn place, still waiting on my credit 20.-00$ lesson . I would go with stainless spokes if I was to buy new but I have stock com-stars on my 77,there's lots of them(spokes)and believe every-one should lace at least 1 rim, pain in the ? but very do able,Then to shop for final truing
Let the more "expertise" on your model handle those ?...Piute...

Welcome to the forum. Yes the later parts are compatible. If your forks are leaking, you probably just need new seals. They are around $10.00, and are easy to change. The round top carbs are very easy to rebuild. You would pay big bucks, for a good bolt on, and go set of carbs.
Watch out, for the wheel deals on ebay. A lot of those auctions are by tasclassicmotorsports. I have had problems with them, and do not recommend them. I would check with Cycle one, for them. Just give them a call. They will get anything, you want/need.

actually aside from the seals, the inner tubes are so rusted and with dents already. can i use the inner tubes of the 73-78 models? also, what do you recommend i but for the spokes and nipples?

stainless from buchannan
cadium nipples from cb750supply?

Can i also use the carburator of the 73-76 models?

Are the hub bearings and seals have the same for models 60-76?

thanks

On the 70-76, they should use all the same wheel bearings, I think this goes through 78 too. For the K models and f/f1 models.

Buchanans makes awesome spokes. They are expensive but about the best you can get. They also sell rims that you can lace to your hubs.
You can just use the whole wheel from any K model too. Keep in mind that the 77/78K had 17 inch rear rims that are a bit wider.

All the fork, and wheel parts interchange between the 69-78 K, and A models. However like Re-run said the 77-78 K, and the A's have a 17 inch rear wheel, but they will go right on. Also the A wheels are aluminum, and highly sought after, for cafe racers. Cycle one will get, you a better deal on wheel parts.

You need to focus on one issue at a time.

You have one of the most powerful tools in the world at your disposal-the internet.

Just type into a search engine like Google what it is that you want, and look through the results.
Do not make the mistake of only looking at the WEB results.
Look up in the upper left corner of your computer screen and you will see that you can also
CLICK on IMAGE results. This is important because often there will be a photo of what you want and that will lead you to a website.

Buying Parts.... Do not buy from a website that has no phone number and will not let you email.

Bike Bandit .com may have some higher prices on things, BUT they have the parts for older models and they ship fast and are reliable. It just depends what part you are looking for.

Take one issue at a time.

Read that again.

Check Ebay,Check all the CB750 parts web sites each time you need a part. And of course this Web forum and its members have a wealth of information.

If you are restoring the 72 CB750 by the time you are finished you should know almost every supplier on the internet.

For the harness, you might be able to use one from a 75 but there might be a few differences. Check the manuals we have to be sure, you should have it anyways and it is free here.

For the wheels, I think buchanans are stainless but I am not sure. As for bearings, timkin is excellent but any quality bearing will be fine.

I checked around when i needed a rear wheel bearing(sprocket side) for mine.Prices ranged everywhere from $18-27 per bearing plus shipping. On a whim i typed the bearing number in the search bar on Ebay and found one for $7,free shipping too.1,100 miles later it still working so I think its gonna do ok.It was rated at 30,000 rpm.Not a typo thirty thousand...thats alot.

Yamiya sells new NOS harnesses, run almost $200 but you are getting genuine mother Honda harness. They're in Japan, so don't expect it overnight. They're pricey but have a lot of NOS stuff you can't find in the states.
