Petcock filter????

slownugly007
Hey guys, I got my tank cleaned and lined and it turned out awesome!!! Its like brand new and only cost $65!? wayyyyyy cheaper than a new one. Now that I got my tank ready, I wanted to replace the petcock filter? Anyone know where I can pick one up? I saw on skeez-bay you can pick up an OEM petcock with filter for around $60? But I just need the filter, my "cocks" fine!?  sorry...immaturity strikes again!! lol

I went with an inline fuel filter, inserted in the fuel line after the petcock (the clear, paper element types, are best -- easy to know when to change them).  Only cost a few dollars, check your local auto parts stores.  The screen filter that juts up into the tank was gone when I bought my bike, and I could not find one online.  This was the easier, less expensive way to go.  Cheers!

ok cool, does it work good? I have an inline filter that came on the bike, so if I dont need the petcock filter then this will be a super cheap fix. Thanks sarge!

The paper filters start out white, and they discolor with crap that they catch.  They're very effective, and very inexpensive.  Some come with metal screens, and they work, but if they're not clear, it is impossible to tell when to replace, other than mileage, or if they plug up, and leave you sitting somewhere...  Cheers!

I have been using a clear filter with the sintered bronze element in them. I went to replace a leaky bowl gasket and found a little pool of debris, probably rust, in the bottom of the bowl. I checked and the other three were the same. So,they are apparently not the best ones to use. I believe I will invest in a paper element filter tomorrow per Sarge's never failing info. BTW,I like the new avatar Sarge

The paper element is about the finest screening material you can get.  I bought a red, opaque, plastic filter, with a metal screen filter element a few years ago, because I could not find the paper filters in the small size I needed.  I regret that.  So far, no issues...  (Knocks on wood!)  I need to change mine out this year, before anything gets past it.

Took mine out today.  Ran like a champ!  Tried to fire up my Voyager, luxury touring machine:  the choke cable stuck, I pushed harder, and it broke...  The 1979 APJB put the 1993 uber-touring machine to shame.  I love my Honda.  The Kawasaki has a bullet-proof reputation, but it still comes in second place to the legendary Honda Super-Bike.  Rock on, Honda!

I love my Honda, too. I didn't go looking for it,it fell in my lap and I could not be more pleased. I put a little over 4k miles on it this winter and enjoyed every frost-bitten mile. I am soooo happy it is warming up outside now. I have a good feeling I will be needing new tires before next winter.  I gotta ask: what is APJB?
