Pilot Jet issue. NEED ADVICE

vbednarek209
Hello, I have a 1980 cb750 custom. I just recently purchased the bike. I took it into the shop for a service and basic check over, and they found that the pilot jet on carburetor #4 wasn't functioning. In essence, my 4 cylinder has been riding on 3 cylinders (at least at half throttle and below). The people at the shop said there was nothing they could do, but the service at that place was absolutely terrible, so I don't trust them.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this issue? is it not that big of a deal? Idk if i should look into buying aftermarket carbs, or try to find the parts used.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Pilot jets are very easily plugged up. Their passages are just so tiny.

Remove it and run a very thin piece of wire through the holes and then flush it with carburetor cleaner. Rinse and repeat until you can see through all the holes in it.

If that doesn't work, try this

http://www.cb750c.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19823&highlight=remove+pilot+jet

I did this over last winter and found that two of the jets were plugged with corrosion beyond help. New jets can be had from Sirius Consolidated part # KHS-47A035x4.

Good luck

Hey shinyribs, thanks for the reply. I haven't been on the site in probably over a month now. The guy said the the pilot jet for the year my bike was made (1980) couldn't be removed..? I'm calling bs. Everywhere I look there are replacement jets. Can you confirm or deny this suspicion?
