Piston Rings

RodneyCB750K1979
I just received new piston rings today for my DOHC 750. They gap .009 to .011 inch.  Which ring goes on top?  They are both marked "TOP". One ring is shiny and one is dark.  The profiles appear the same.  No instructions with the rings. Advice??

One should have a rounded edge, and goes on top. The other should have a beveled edge, and goes in the second grove.

The marking "TOP" on the rings is to tell you that it is the top of the ring that faces up.

And ditto Tools on the other. The reason for the beveled edge on the bottom ring is to act as an oil scraper. The bevel allows it to ''ride past'' the oil on the up stroke but scrape,or squeegee, the oil on the way back down.

It means top of the ring not top position. Chrome ring usually goes on top position.

When you get them they are usually stacked in the right order in the package.

The seller of the new rings informed me the shiny ring goes in the top groove and the darker ring goes into the second groove. This is also the order they were packaged. Thanks a lot everyone for your comments.  I just wanted to be sure.
