Please help. No spark at any cylinders

Jack
Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, and new to fixing motorcycles. I have bought a 82 cb750f. I have been working on it for the past two years.

I have cleaned out the carbs, relined the gas tank, changed the front master cylinder, brake pads front and back, spark plugs and just recently changed the tires front and back.

The first summer I had the bike was when I made a lot of the repairs to the motorcycle. I got the bike running, then went on a tear to finish it and get her on the road. Last summer was when I started having electrical problems. I had a regulator that went bad, so I changed that. The bike ran good for a while.

With every time I ran the bike, it seemed to run a little worse, which leads me to my problem that I have been fighting for way toooo long. I have no spark at any of the cylinders.  It started with 1&4, then 2&3 stopped getting spark. I have changed the regulator, and the rectifier/spark units, and the ignition coils....nothing.  I can't understand how the bike went from aok to this. It has taken a lot of wind out of my sails.

The only part I haven't changed is the pulse generator. Is it possible for the pulse generator to be dead, or worn out, or not sending enough power. I am at my wits end. I am so close to finishing this, but I am stuck, and have been for a while. Please help.

Grab the FSM from the first set of stickies and work your way through that. Also, whereabouts are you located?

Personally, if you aren't getting any spark, check connections themselves. They may be corroded.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

Shiny: [...] Considering the weather you've had to put up with I'd say you get an Iron Butt award and a Frozen Nipple trophy to go along with it. First time I've ever posted the word nipple... it ends here.

I noticed you didn't list changing the wires from the coils to the plugs. Its it possible they are toast?

I have pulled apart every connection that I could find and everything is good.  The motor ran great the first summer I had it.  I would test ride it around my neighborhood quit often, and it was great.  It idled nice, it had good pull, shifted through all the gears, then with time it started to get worse.

I am located in Toronto ON, Canada.  The only bike shop that I know of that carries an abundance of parts is located an hour out of the city.

I haven't changed the spark plug wires yet, but is that something that can have a "fading performence" that will eventually lead to no spark at any of the plugs.

Just like a lot of other people on this forum, I would like to build a cafe style bike, but before I start with fancy seats, and handle bars and all that good stuff, I need everything to run proper before I make it look good.

As I am new to the forum, Im not sure what an FSM is, but I will figure it out and go from there.  Electrical problems suck...............

Fsm is a manual for Honda.  I have been using a clymer, but from what I have read there is more detailed information inside of an FSM.  I will try to pick one up.  The more information I have available to me the better.

So I think I have narrowed down the problem.  I finally got my hands on a volt meter, and measured the resistance coming out of the pulse generator.  The two yellow wires(cylinder 1&4) are reading 1, the two blue (cylinder 2&3) wires are reading 546ohms.

I am going to pick up a pulse genrator on monday and hopefully everything goes well.  The list of other things I need to finish on the motorcycle is coming back to me.  Very excited.  Will update progress after monday.  Fingers crossed.

replaced the pulse generator/pick up coils. 2 cranks on the starter and she fired up. Idles great. Only problem, one bad plug in cylinder 1, so I didn't go for a test ride.  I can't believe how well it idles and runs with one bad cylinder.

Tomorrow...new plug and a test ride. I am so happy.

I will start a build thread and post some pics. Now to finish off the last few things, and she will be back on the road again after God knows how many years.
