Problem: key switch won't turn off

v. hayes
Hello,
I have  77 Honda CB750, which I've been riding on a regular basis.  After a ride the other day, I turned my key to the off position but the lights stayed on. I tried changing the key position, but the lights just stayed on. I couldn't figure it out, so I just disconnected the battery.  This issue happened once before, and a mechanic took the gas-tank off (the switch is under the tank), adjusted the switch for a minute and it was fixed in about a minute.
I'm trying to avoid a visit to the mechanic.  Any ideas suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Anthony

Your switch is probably shorted out. You can get a new on cheap at vintagecb750.com The switch is actually a plastic part that mounts to the bottom of the part that the key goes into.

Careful on the switch you get though. I would suggest getting an actual honda replacement. Many of the cheap replacements are made by emgo and used on a large number of bikes. Problem is that the switch is not made to handle the current that the stock switch does and can burn out sometimes. So, just be careful when you buy the switch.

Thanks for the suggestions.   I'll try swapping the switch.  The switch on the bike now was made by emgo, so maybe that was the issue.

Very possible. honda switches are pricey but worth it. If you go that route.
