Problem with gas line on '72 750

j_teether
Hey guys,

Last winter before I put the Bike away it was kind of stuttering on the gas, especially going up hills. I figured it was probably just something I was doing wrong, but when i got it out this summer to drive, the same thing happened and it seems to backfire a bit when I first start it.

And when I try and drive it will start to go but then the engine stalls because no matter how hard I pull the throttle, it doesn't get enough gas.

I took the gas lines off at the tank and turned the gas on. In the normal on position, no gas came out. In reserve, it dribbled out a really small amount.

Anyone ever run into a problem like this or know of any way to fix it?

Most of the sohc bikes still have a filter inside the tank. You will need to drain out the gas however, syphon might be faster. remove the petcock and clean it and the filter. Put it back on and you will probably get flow then. Before syphoning though, just open the filler door and see if flow improves. Sometimes the vent in the cap gets blocked and the fuel can flow against a vacuum.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
