Problems in running

kw76cb750fss
Alright guys I'm at my witt's end bought my 76 750f ss a few months ago, finally got it to run about two weeks ago. Went to ride to work two days ago and only got about a 1/4 of a mile before it started to run werid and then died, and now won't start let alone run. When she did run she moved with not a hint of her age. Looking to keep her but need a relible cycle to ride from north Dakota back to Virginia. Don't want to get stranded with a sick bike.

P.S. I only have about two months be for I move to va so need to get her running like the wonderful machine she is know to be.

If you want that bike to ride back i would take it to a shop. Two months you may get someone to look at it.Second and dumb question. You had the fuel on right?Hey it happens.Third are the fuel lines getting gas to the carbs.Forth unlike many cars you need some elec for these bikes to run.Is your battery staying charged?Did you blow the main fuse.To many things that can go wrong that is why a mach is a good idea in your time frame.Since it did run alright i would think it can be fixed and the only thing that i can think that may cost an arm and a leg may be a new rotor if that is the problem.Again try to find someone that knows your bike and can put an eye on the problem in person. Here is a site that has helped me in the past.  http://www.dansmc.com/MC_repaircourse.htm Bookmark it everybody

First thanx for reading an replying. Yes fuel was on, bike ran fine day before. Started fine and idled fine before it died later Mon morning on my way to work. Cranks over but will not start. Fuel lines are wet and   full. Popping the bowls in the morning. Was thinking something like not getting spark, sparkplugs or coils, or wires don't know crappy day look tomrrow. Any further advice is welcome as far going to a mech, not going to speand the money on them since there is vast amount of loyal cb owners to source from.

True about loyal cb owners. You can use a voltmeter to help .I have a shop that i go to and they some times find the cause for me and i fix it.Still though it is great finding it yourself.Sounds like you have a plan.Let us know what you find out.

My first ride I blew a fuse. Start there. Make sure you have the right size fuses. It is listed on the holder on my mine.

Now I see you said it started to run wierd then died. A blown fuse would cause it to stop immediatly.

What work have you done so far? Lets start there. Give us a run down of things you have done to get the bike running in the first place. Otherwise all we can do is guess.

There are a couple of things you can try though in the mean time.
get some carb cleaner and spray a bit into each carbs with the airbox off. try to start. If it starts then dies, you have a fuel delivery issue, if it still does nothing, it is most likely an ignition problem.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

oknot to familiar with you bike but.. i worked on my buddies 78 cb70 a while ago with the same problem it ran fine but when he actually drove it, it cut out and wouldnot fire again.

list of what i did. first make sure carbs are getting fuel.
2. we pulled plugs and checked sparkplug wires and boots.
3 . tested for spark" was there"
4. checked point and condenser

bingo more than half the point "flint" i guess is what you can call it was missing. i replaced the points and condenser with new ones" pretty cheap"

check for spark once more WHOA major differance. we took the spark we saw as it getting spark. we were wrong wasnt enough to run the motor. new points and condenser along with new plugs and wires, she fired right up and ran like a bear.

Read THIS, It sounds very familiar to what happened to mine this spring.  It could be your Kill Switch, there's a way to test it here in this thread.  Try that first.

Guys thanx for the advice, but I did the normal things cleaned inspected and put back together. Did check for both fouled plugs and spark, not fouled have spark. Took off bowls on one and two, checked for fuel(present) and tank too look for anything loose up top. Put back together and she fired off like a bat out of hell. So don't know what was wrong but she works and ridesbfine now just need to pick up a blub for turn signal. Thanx again for the feedback
