...could you do me a favor? Would you mind cracking open your book of carburetor knowledge that you've been compiling and give me a recommendation for a tune?

I know you like numbers/info so:

Air filter-pods

Exhaust- 4-2's. 2 1/2'' tailpipes with baffles. I ran a wire in there. No muffler, just feels like a single flat disc.Like a washer. I'm guessing its about 1 1/2''- 1 3/4'' opening on that baffle

Engine serial calls to be a '70 or '71 model. I'm pretty sure is all stock

Carb #- 7A JG

What's in my carbs now:

Mains-130
Pilots- 40
Needle- #2720-clip is one notch from the top out of five notches
Slide-has 102 & 2.5 on it if that means anything
Idle mixture screws are solid tipped

The only other jets I have on hand right now are a set of 110 mains and 35 pilots.

...did I forget anything?probably...

Lucky, get your head outta your digger build for a minute I dont know where to set my needles. The bike runs good at highway speed and the plugs look OK. I havent done an official plug chop, but they are colored nicely. Right on take off the bike has a flat spot-I'd say from 1200-2000 rpm. It doesnt cough, stumble or spit back-just kinda dead. Move the needle position perhaps? Pilots too small?

If those are 7a's the stock set up is as follows:

26mm float setting.
120 mains.
#40 idle jets.
needle clip middle position.
mixture screw 1 turn open.

Yes I bet it has a stumble. Too lean.

With pods I would get #42 idle jets.
Also think about moving the clip to the 4th groove down if the middle position is still not responsive.

With pods and those exhausts you will need to richen the mixture a little.

You did not mention if there is any popping on decell.

Pilots jets ONLY control idle along with the mixture screws.
The needle controls 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle.
Drop that needle clip.
Stay with the 130 mains until you get the rest of it running right then do a plug chop at WOT for that main jet.
But if at WOT it keeps accelerating leave it alone.
IF at WOT it seems to flatten out and not keep accelerating put in a bigger main.
I am sure you will not need a larger main jet.

How did you get in my shop?

How did I get in your shop? I'm good like that

Alright so stick with the 130 mains for now but raise the needle/drop the clip.Gotcha. I am almost positive my mixture screws are setting at 1 1/2 turns,so I'll check that and see how it responds.

I was worried about the 40 pilots also since my other bike uses a 42,but I think these pipes are a bit more restrictive than whats on the other bike. I base that on decibel output alone, though.

There is very, very slight popping in decel. The bike really has to be revved up to pop on decel. It will do it at 60mph+ but once it slows down some it goes away. And it it very slight when it does do it.

Thanks for the info. I'll get at it report back

What is the difference between 7A's and 064A's?  I stole the 064A carbs off my other bike and put them on the chopper

125 mains
42 pilots
No clue where the needles are. Don't wanna move them or adjust these carbs since they run perfect and I plan on running them on the bike belong to.

5/8 turns out on the idles.  They are the idle screws with holes in the tips.

I still have pods but am running wide open drag pipes now. The bike runs like a scalded dog now. There is a bit of stumble off idle. Even more than you would expect with non-accel pump carbs. Only stumbles if you really Hank of open below 3k rpms. Other than that it seems great.

WOO HOO ! Cam is fixed now. So I'm back on getting these carbs right. I never did get your PM bud.

Oh,and to confuse things even more I am back on the 7A's now

Still has
130 mains
40 pilots
1.5 turns out on solid tipped IM screws.
pods

using the wide open drag pipes for now. They sound better-ishHonda choppers: the sound just dont match the look

I did drop the needle to the middle position. I will test that when I get my new bowls in. PO cut the overflow nipples off the ones that came with the bike

Thanks for this
