I think the seller is giving you some BS trying to sell it. "Change the oil once a month?" Come on, really. How does he know the valves are slightly out of adjustment? Has he pulled the valve cover and actually checked? The one thing you will really need to check is if the charging system is working. Take an Ohm meter with you to look at the bike. Set the meter to 20V DC, put the leads to the battery terminals. You should have at least 12.4 volts. Then start the engine and rev it to 3000 rpm. It should show 13.4 volts. If it does not, it will need work. Also check the tires for age and wear.
